First off, yes, I know AWD would be ideal, but I'm asking if you think I would NEED it. I'm debating ditching my FWD eclipse turbo for an AWD, but my question is for those who've modded thier FWD's. Are you still able to hook up decently on the street. I race most on the streets, and often from a stop but strip runs won't be too common, however I still mill make the occasional run in the 1/4. Now, the question is, before I start putting stuff on my car, and tuning it.... should I sell it and go for an AWD, or do you think FWD with a good suspension setup, and some wider sticky tires will be enough for some serious damage. I don't aim for 10's or anything (at least not anytime soon) more like low 13's maybe high 12's with drag radials, but I don't really want to run them all the time because I'll most likely end up driving it in the rain as much as I don't want to and will try not to. What do you guys suggest?

its really up to you. i know a lot of guys who put bigger turbo's n such on the FWD and can get better times than others in their AWD. Of course if u invest the same amount of money into an AWD.. you'll more than likely get better times at the 1/4.

the FWD is faster off a roll...
the AWD is faster off the line...

Depends on how much time and money u wish to spend in the future... regardless u can have a fast car either way. Just different paths.

go awd, or u will end up having to buy slicks and all kinds of other stuff if you want GOOD track times.

If you are more into racing from a roll then go FWD

Well see this is what I was thinking.... but then I realized that I never really go to the strip, maybe like once a month or so. So does anyone with a FWD that has been modded slightly still hook up decently on the streets from a stop? That's mostly the kind of racing I ever really do....and a lot from a roll too.

The goal you are looking for isn't that far out of reach with the proper suspension mods. I suggest a set of AGX adjustable shocks at all 4 corners, and Eibach springs, set the rear shocks on pretty stiff to absorb some of the weight transfer. A good set of drag radials and learning how to modulate the gas a bit in the first 2 lower gears will help tremendously. In my car, on a cooler night, it would spin in 4th gear if I stabbed it hard and hit the spray at 100mph. Generally, my car spun through 3rd gear pretty hard, but still pulled despite the wheelspin because I modulated the gas properly. But, my car also made close to 500 crank HP. 300 wheel HP in a FWD DSM is a plenty fast daily driver street car, and I think once you get used to the power, you'll have loads of fun with it. Good luck.

Regards,

high 12s into low 13s is really attainable with FWD with the right setup and at the same time youll prolly end up breaking less parts then you would on AWD..

I initally wanted AWD but now im actually happy with my FWD. I have a BM LSD in the car and it doesnt spin all that bad any more.. it hooks and goes.. not like an AWD car would but enuf to hold its own

Sweet, thanx for the help guys... I've decided I'll keep my '90 Gs-Turbo, plus it just had a new Clutch put in...they said it was a Lewis Racing Clutch, new master and slave cyls, a re-surfaced flywheel and new axles. So I'm ahead with the Tranny Part.
