Taylorsville,
I just had my head reworked with new valves new valve guides and seals. the day i got it back i was driving and spun a rod bearing! so i have decided to rip it apart and put it back together. My problem is deciding to rebuild (more likely with my budget) or find a cheap 6 bolt short block. i have already purchased 1g "big" rods and have 95 pistons my question is should i go ahead and save for a 6bolt or just rebuild the 7bolt?

Not to whore the thread or antyhing, but . . .

I'm actually in pretty much the same boat. I believe my rings have finally given up (160k miles) and am curious if I should just pull the pistons out, hone the cylinders and call it good. OR should I pull the engine and redo crank bearings etc . . . or like yourself- do a 6-bolt transplant.

I just rebuilt the 7 bolt but I put all aftermarket stuff in it. If you are on a tight budget buy a used running 6 bolt for a few hundred and swap it in in a day. Then you'll have an extra engine around too to mess with or build when you have the 6 bolt in the car.

I wouldnt build up the 7bolt, To much of a risk for Crank walk. Find a 6bolt and build that.
