Hi guys,
I hated to start another thread cause its probably been beat to death. I tried searching but didn't turn up what I was looking for. I'm getting ready to change my timing belt for my 1990's 120k maintenance. I looked up some parts and here's what I found.

Conicelli:
Timing belt #MD326059 $56.98
Timing belt tensioner #MD164533 $63.06
Idler Pulley #MD156604 $25.37
Timing Belt Pulley #MD129355 $20.76
Total: $166.17

Buschur Racing:
Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit #10120-BR $75.00
Water Pump #10310-MIT $65.00 (Cheapest I've found.)
Total: $140.00

Here's some info on the car:
I bought the car and there was no powersteering pump or reservior. I assume that the power rack is still in it because it's a pain in the @$$ to turn. I plan on replacing it with a manual rack soon. So I won't need the power steering belt. But I was wondering about the alternator belt. Wouldn't it be a good idea to change it too while I'm at it? Should I get a mitsu belt or will an autozone belt be fine for the alternator? I'm also wanting to replace the starter while all this is being done. Does anyone know how much for these two items and the part numbers? Is there anything I'm missing? Where would you suggest getting the two parts listed above and any other parts I'm missing. Thank you for all of your help. It's greatly appreciated!

might want to get 2 cam seals, oil pump seal balance shaft belt while u down there

assuming the 1G uses the same balance shaft since it used the same timing belt
the part numbers are

Balance shaft belt: MD984778. list price $23.22
(2) Cam seal: MD372536. List price $12.96

I'm not planning on having the balance shafts. I'm going to get the buschur racing eliminator kit. One less belt to break and tear apart an engine. Are the other seals to help with putting the timing section back together properly? Thanks.

get the balance shaft eliminator kit from slowboyracing.com its 42 bucks, compared to 75.

you dont need an eliminator kit at all, just cut the balance shaft and turn the bearings. Its free.

i wouldnt suiggest it. may take the chance of spinning the bearing and walking the bs out the oil pump. it happened to me with no bs belt on. u might as well eliminate them, or at least the rear one.

hey guys,
I figured out what I'm going to do for the eliminator kit. I went to the vfaq.com site and they have a way of eliminating the balance shafts with stock parts. I'm not going to be doing the maintenance myslef and so I'm going to give the mechanic all new parts so there won't be any problems. Granted its not free, but it should cost less than most kits I've found.

You should be able to get a new starter from a place like AutoZone or something. Believe that's where I got one for my '97. The brand was BOSCH by the way :D

Okay, Ive got to drop my two cents here cause your just trying to make this harder than it needs to be. First, go to Napa, for $137.00 you pick up the entire timing set. which includes the t-belt, the bs belt, the tensioner pulley's for both, and the idler pully for the t-belt. Now, is this a 1.8 or a 2.0? If its a 1g 2.0 theres only one bs. I would not recemend removeing it. Personal preference. The motor runs so much nicer with it. If the car has 120k on it, and that bs belt hasn't broke yet, than I dont think you have too much to worry about . You do have to make sure that you are careful with the cam style tensioner pulley on it though. Too tight or too loose and then you could end up worrying about breakage. Also my opinion, put the power steering pump and res. back on the car unless your planning on dedicating the car to drag racing. I persanally just went throught the whole timing belt, water pump ordeal on my 1g gst. Not fun. I ended up putting that belt on the car 5 times. It was a learning experience. I would recemend that if your doing this job on your own, then make sure that you ask some questions cause theres some little hidden secrets that the book is not too forthcoming with. I would be happy to help. Good luck with you endevors! :dsm: :thumb:
