SAAB 900 FMIC question

My visit to a local junkyeard eneded up with me getting SAAB 900 FMIC.

Has anyone had experience with 'em ?

It's roughly the size of DSM radiator, and about same width.

Inlet and outlet are 3in wide, plastic end tanks.

Does anyone know if it's capable of holding 20 + boost ?
What are its strong/weak points (besides fitment)...

Is it a goof upgrade overall ?

Its a radiator with bigger endtanks basically.
It has a very high pressure drop and flows horribly.

Thats if i'm thinking of the right intercooler, same design as the volvo's?

Yeah, I think it is same as Volvo's.
It has inlet/outlet coming out at right angle with respect to the IC surface.

Well, is it at least better then stock DSM SMIC ?

Not even close, and its too big.
It would make a descent radiator though!

I don't know about the Saab one, but a mid 80's 240 Turbo Volvo intercooler is one of the best stock parts you can buy. It is almost as efficient as the Spearco parts and flows almost as well too. I can't remember where I read that, but I do remember the article was backed up by numbers.

Alot of Mustang SVO guys, 2.2 Dodge guys, and of course the Volvo boys use these things with good results.

Thanks, That's a good pointer. Next junk trip I'll know what to look for ..

remember they don't look all that cool, and I don't know what sort of inlet/outlet pipe sizes they have, so be aware of what you are getting.

But they can be quite a bargain, if you get one cheap.
