A local machine shop is claiming that my friends car used 2g rods and 1g pistons. Is that even possible? I know you have to machine 1g rods to fit 2g pistons, but the reverse puzzles me.

since 1g and 2g rods go for about the same. What car did he have? What did your friend tell you? Right, 1g rods have to be machined to fit 2g pistons, so the reverse would apply. 2g rods should be to big to fit 1g pistons so they'd have to I'm guessing have metal welded on them then remachined to be exact fit. They're probably mistaken tho as this would seem pretty illogical.
