Edmonton,
hey well im ready to install my 3" gm maf, translator, and gonna do it blow thru style. i allready have an aftermarket 2.5 inch upper intercooler pipe, how much of it should i cut? and where should i cut it exactly? also does anyone have diagrams? pics? instrucistion? on how to install the maft on a 91... thanks. i bought the parts used and dont have instructions. thanks.

Well it is gonna have to be a custom job. Just put the two silicon couplers on the mas and line it up with you i/c piping. Bolt one end to the TB elbow and then look and see where you have to cut the i/c piping to make it fit. Don't forget that the piping has to go in the couplers. Dont just cut the pipe at the end of the coupler. Hope that helps a little.

You will also want to bead the ends of the pipes after cutting them to keep the couplers from blowing off.

Is that so?:D ;)

If you prep the pipes (clean then well, etc) and use good clamps, it's not a problem.

I've been running mine on non-beaded pipes at 20 psi forever. No issues.:thumb:

With a pipe beader!

Any exhaust place should have 'em, and really any shop with a mandrel bender.

Or, you can just take a hammer and "create" a bead :D Even just flaring out the end of the pipe will give the same effect, something for the clamps to hook onto.

Well some of us aren't that anal about cleanliness when it comes to our cars :p

I just welded beads on mine. Even with cheap clamps they should hold 50+ :D

you can get away with not beading them just clean them and then spray some hair spray on the end of the pipe and put the coupler on that will only last for so long though.

Talk about lucky... had my pipes blow off when they weren't beaded.

You can also create a bead with some JB Weld. I had to cut my IC pipes for fitment when changing from a 16g to a 50 trim. Of course after cutting I had no beads (and as mentioned above blew off). I created the beads by using masking tape to build up a valley for the bead, and then filling the valley with JB-weld and letting it set overnight. It's... working, at least enough so the pipes aren't blowing off, but I haven't pressure tested the setup yet so I don't know if it's leaking at all.

I feel so ghetto :)

so where can i get couplers that go from a 3 inch to a 2.5 inch? I am going to a frontmount and taking out the abs, so this would be alot cheaper than trying to find the piping that does the same thing again

gsx4life - I'm curious as to what you used to relocate your overflow bottle. Did you buy a bracket from somewhere or just use the stock one and attach it under the fusebox?

Its not attached at all. The way we made and positioned the UICP lefta perfect gap for the bottle to tuck into. Its not held by any bracket at all. I was planning on getting a smaller bottle, but it fit so good and hasnt caused any trouble, I simply left well enough alone.

Make sure you use quality silicone reducer couplers. I purchased mine from RRE. And defffinately have the pipes beaded correctly. Dont half ass it. And BTW, the 2.5"-3" 3-ply couplers go right on the 3" MAF sensor. Many complained about how tight they were. Mine were on in seconds.
If I didn't have ABS, that would be a nice place to put it too... zip tied mine to the radiator fan shroud. :)

You can just use a set of pliers and bend the edge of the pipe ends out a little. You dont even need to do it all the way around the pipe. I just do it on opposite sides. I've never blown a fitting apart, but I only run 17 psi right now.
