Damn I am stupid...HELP ASAP

Ok, I was in the process of swapping out a blown motor in favor of a non-blown one and the only thing I have left to do is to finish hooking p the alternator...I can't remember which wire goes where...HELP...I need to get this done it is driving me nuts.

Please post a pic or some explaination as to which one goes where...I don't want to hook it up wrong and blow the thing.

there only should be two connections then the ground wire

I have the "plug" one plugged in but there are 2 other wires that go to the alternator but they are the same color and I don't know which is which!

Yes that is the main plug...it has a red cover and is installed then there are 2 other wires that have a "O" connector for a terminal on the alternator, these are the wires that I have questioned about

there should be little screws on the side and one of them is ur ground

Which wire is the ground of the remaining two wires? And where do they go..sorry these questions are so bad...can you take a pic of your engine and alternator installed and post it???

i found ur problem there one of those wires that dont go to the alt because theres only two connections

one of the o conectors could go to the oil pressure sender it is down by the oil filter. There should be a tower sticking off of the bracket that the oil filter attaches to and a hole for a screw in the top. Hope that is it. I had that same problem with my car putting it back together.

I've got the "yellow" wire going to the oil filter.

Then the two wires in question appear to go to the same post though there is enough slack to run one to the post in the square cast part of the altenator.

What confuses me is this- is there a gound wire and a power wire that should run to separate posts?



All information I have so far just contradicts itself.... Grrrr..... this is really getting under my skin.. oh and to top it off Haynes doesn't list the b.s. alt in the wiring diagrams Or it's not labled clearly.

Alternator produces alternate current, therefore you wouldn't have your + or -

I've replace alternator on my bike, it had identical situation. Wires of the same color are interchangable, since current isn't direct. The question is if the two wires you're talking about are it.

Just to set the record straight (I'm not trying to flame you), but WTF?? Some bikes have 3 interchangeable wires from the alternator because they have an external rectifier. This is NOT the case with CARS! The alternating current is rectified (changed to D.C.) inside the alternator, so the wires DO matter.

1fstgvr4: Sorry I can't help with your problem, I just can't sit still while someone posts info that is completely wrong. What you need is a diagram that shows wire colors, like the ones at the dealerships. I'd go buy a factory repair manual. They're worth the money and you'll use it again.
