Is 1400-1500degrees too high ?

Hey guys, thanks to your help I've installed EGT probe and gauge smoothly.

Here's my reading:
At highway speed (rpms 3000-3500) my temp is 1400-1500. Is this normal ?

What level is dangerous ?
 
1500F seems kind of high for just freeway cruising. Where it the EGT probe mounted? What size injectors are you running? Do the EGTs climb past 1500F if you accelerate after that?

I would use the AFC and try to richen things up a bit and try to tune for 1300F-1400F when cruising on freeway.

How old is your o2 sensor BTW?
 
I haven't pushed it for prolong periods of time on a highway, but I did get up to 1500 while mildly accellerating.

I've richened up the mixture about 7% using SAFC and haven't notice any drop in temp.

O2 is as old as car ('91) How is o2 sensor involved in it ?

The S-AFC settings don't have any effect on A/F ratio at crusing speeds since the ECU is using the O2 sensor (and MAS at WOT) as its primary input. You should see around 1350' at 3K in 5th and tune to 1600' at WOT. Anything above 1650' is too lean.
 
well, so far I haven't been able to push it up to 1600. When racing and stuff, it's never too long to get that hot, and on a highway, there is too much traffic for me to accelerate for a long period to see if temp. gets up that high....
I'm seing about 1350-1400 at 3000K when keeping steady speed. May get up to 1500 when acceleration with 3500K rpm.

btw, sensor is mounted in (first ?) runner (closest to belt side), with sensor being close to the end of the runner near collector.

but somehow i don't think it functions properly.

First of all it fluctuates, and that, as i heard, is normal,
but at WOT it goes to way too rich, I can't possibly be running that rich

Do you know of any only places that sell replacement O2 sensors ?

The car would run awefully rich at cruising speeds (you'd get quite crappy mileage) since the ECU switches to safety mode (very rich fuel maps) in case of the O2 sensor failure. Your EGT would go down as well, but 1350-1400' at 3K is right on (proving there's nothing wrong with the O2 sensor). Just to make sure, hook up a voltmeter to the O2 sensor diagnostic connector located under the passenger side kick panel. The voltage should fluctuate at idle from 0 to 1V and read around 0.90V at WOT. If the voltage is very low - 0.15-0.35V, the O2 sensor is dead. One of the best (and cheapest) places to buy the O2 sensor (and other parts) from is Conicelli (www.partznet.com). ;)
 
Nope, we didn't drop the project. Just being extremely busy doing custom installs, engine building and tuning have slowed us down a bit, but we've been working on development of the new products as time's allowed... ;)
