I just checked my compression and it was 120 120 110 110.
Rather than rebuilding the 7bolt I think Im going to use the 6bolt engine out of my parts eclipse. Mind you this is the first gen 7 bolt.
What am I going to need for this swap? Please dont post unless you have first hand experience on this kind of swap.

you sure you did the compression test right, and/or have an accurate gauge?...you hardly ever see compression number where all the cylinders are low...usually its just one or two cylinders that are considerably less then the others
 
Yeah im sure I did it right, I even tried dumping oil in the cylinders to make sure that it was the cylinders and not just the valves or something. Theres really no way you can screw up a compression test anyway. And yeah I was expecting it to be just 1 or 2 of the cylinders to be low too. Kinda strange considering it only has 60k on it.
 
Read the magnus article on the swap because they pretty much have everything covered. Also, RRE has an article about it on their site. Lastly, Subscribe to the DSM1gina2g yahoo newsgroup and many of us will get the emails you send to the group on specific problems. It's kind of hard to list everything that you are going to need when the sources are there for you to use. Post specific questions about the swap here or IM someone who has done it and will give you the skinny on the fine details.
 
Those two sites both have articles about swapping a 6 bolt from a 1g into a 2g. Thats not what Im doing. I have the 1g 7bolt which is a little different from the 2g one. They both hook up identically and look identical except for the oil pan and the obvious difference that one is a 6 bolt and one is a 7 bolt. The main thing I want to know is how will the 6 bolt hook up to my transmission?
 
i've personally done the swap. email me directly with any questions as I do not come here that regularly(once a week).

its fairly straight forward. I bought a used 6 bolt shortblock, and built it up with ross' on eagles, no balance shafts, full deal.

differences off the top of my head: ( i documented everything and have all reciepts somewhere)

oil pan, front case, flywheel(duh). not much really. also if you have an original 7 bolt 1g head you are putting on the 6 bolt you will have to drill out the head bolt holes to accomodate the 6 bolt arps, assuming you are throwing them in.

side note: after 4 months and 2k miles on this motor i have to say I have experienced ZERO increase in engine vibration do to dumping the bshafts. ZERO. Smooth as a kitten. very happy.

the ironic part is I had no intention of doing fully forged internals but the cost difference between forged and 2g on big rods is negligable. on the plus side it's fun assembling all the flashing forged shit. downside is no one see's it.....LOL
