Piping for Starion IC [Merged 9-7]

I have conquest aka starion. I Plan on using my spare IC from it on my car as well. I have a 95 GSX. I plan on getting a welder and buying pre-bent pipe to make mine up.

hey guys, maybe someone can help me. i have a 91 eagle talon fwd turbo. i just bought a starion intercooler off of ebay. where can i find piping for it that is already formed for my car. i have a friend that works at midas that can bend some pipe for me, but it wont be mandrel bent. please give me some info or maybe one of you out there has some pipe that you want to get rid off that you had for the same thing. i live in florida, so if you know of any shops around let me know

well, research I've done on this board steered me away from buying the starion fmic. It wouldn't flow enough or well enough to make it worthwhile. I believe many people had to modify their endtanks to get it to work well. None the less, you can always buy mandrel bends from RRE and have them welded. I wouldn't use press bent piping for anything on my car. just my $0.02

Hey, i have a starion front mount, and i can make a new elbow to replace that tiny one, but will i have all these problems guys are talkin about. Like idle probs, or over heating cause the ic blocks air? I want power, but not with probs. you guys have done this stuff, give me some input, and i did check vfaq, i just need a little more opinions on results. oh, and how about power gains, any ideas? I'll be using 2" aluminum piping and stock blow off valve. uh, i think thats it.

the stock intercooler piping on the starion is 2 inch I believe. If you can go 2.5 inch that would be great...but i think 2.25 is the biggest you can weld onto the endtanks. As far as intercooler piping goes, I think 2.5 inch would be enough for anything you can produce as far as HP goes. 3 inch IC piping is just insane....if your crafty you can figure something out though. Idle problems I havent really heard of. Overheating problems are possible.....but rare. Mitsu fans are very nice when it comes to cooling the cooling system. An aftermarket 14 inch slim fan never hurt anyone though :D

I just "downgraded" from a supra sidemount to a starion front mount intercooler...as soon as im done with the car rebuild I'll be sure to post up an update on some timeslips.

thats right, car rebuild, front end has some serious damage, and i decided to throw in some rings, and a pinch of headwork.:thumb: :talon:

I just bought a starion FMIC with no piping...my question here is here can i get piping to make my own hookup along with the flexable hose to hook the pipes together? Do I have to get them from some special place or can I get the pipes from a hardware store? Please let me know. Also if anyone has them for sale Im iterested in buying. Thanks.

Yeah, you can pretty much use any pipes that will fit, and hold up to the temperatures / pressure.

A lot of people use mandrel bent exhaust piping, and silicon couplers. These can both be found at a variety of online parts places.

You'll need a flange for the BOV to mount onto.

You basically just rig everything up, cut to fit, and then couple or weld everything to fit. If you have problems blowing off couplers, you might want to have the ends of the pipes that have couplers "beaded" which basically puts a small lip onto them, so that the clamps can grab better, but if you just make sure the couplers and pipe are clean and well clamped, that should work.

I was also wondering how much HP the starion IC can support(cool down)? and will i see a noticable difference from the stock side mount?

If you do a search on this board you will find a bunch of threads where people have found the starion IC to be pretty worthless. Its real inefficient.

what do you mean by that? my dad has as alum. welder at work and im sure we could get larger ends on..if i did this would i be fine? i dont want to put it on if im going to LOSE power...if i loose boost cant i just turn it up more and be fine? help im lost on this so far

basicly my question is...with my mods i have now(see profile) is it worth the starion IC or leave the stock one? I really want the look of the IC in the front and on warmer days i can feel when the IC gets heat soaked and i would like not to have that. so please let me know what i should do.

Does anybody have pictures of the intercooler piping thats used for a starion front mount on a 1g. I want to use the starion intercooler but also with the blowthrough setup. can anybody point me in the right direction on how? thanx guys

when i bought my gsx, the dude gave me a starion intercooler. its not that big, core measures: 16.5"x8"x2.5" but since it was free, why not use it. the only problem is that the tubes where the piping connects is only 1.75"!!!

i dont know much about fmic but to me that seems kinda small.
how the heck am i going to find piping this small. i was thinking i would buy something like this, but will it fit?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-...tegoryZ33742QQihZ015QQitemZ250010898861QQrdZ1

any ideas?

A local guy had a shop chop off the small piping and weld on 2.5 piping ends to the IC.....It worked.

well i figured since i already have this intercooler, why not use it. and i'm sure its a step up from the smic.

not gonna lie, i think i'll look like a cheap fool with an intercooler that small, but hey i'm on a tight budget...

Hey, I deffinately see where your comming from. I ALSO read alot mod once mod right, but in most cases thats hard to do with out the right amount of money, so I set priorities. It took me getting rid of some small things and saving to finally get DSMLink haha but it happend. You could sell that IC on ebay alot of guyr sun it for custom turbo set ups on like hondahs and what not then take tha cash and save alittle more and grab the NEW 1G SS kit. That right there is exactly what I would do.

After just looking they are only going for about 50 bucks on ebay....I paid 127 2 years ago for my old one. Its up to you now, but I would not use that 1 inch piping.

or check this out.
