Converter install problems

I'm installing my new motor as I type this, but I'm having some problems with the torque converter install.

The trans was working fine before I pulled the motor. I was installing it with 2 flexplates last night, but I couldn't get the trans to motor bolts to go on all the way. I looked underneath and realized that the 2 flexplates were pushing on the converter (not enough clearance). I pulled the trans down and realized the converter wasnt able to spin at all. I pulled the converter off and back on and made sure the converter could spin freely.

So I decided to just run one flexplate and use a lot of lock-tite on all the bolts. I install the trans with one flexplate bolt everything on, but when I go to bolt the converter to flex plate I cant turn the converter. It's like it was binding up on something. I decided to try and turn it anyways and I heard a snap somewhere in the bellhousing area. What could that have been (i was thinking the metal part the sarter goes through)?

After that sound happened, I've had no problems turning the motor/ converter around like all my other instlalls with it.

Does it sound like I ruined the pump or anything, or should I be good to go? Are two flexplates really NEEDED if I'm planning on going low-11's or mabye 10's this year?

It sounds like you never had the converter seated all the way in..This is what my converter looks like seated all the way in..
My last converter install, I had a fit getting it seated all the way..Pulled it off, started over, pulled it off again and it seated right away....

Sweet thanks for the pic. Does anyone know how far the converter should fit in the trans? And do I need 2 flexplates for high 10's?

If your trans is already out and 10z are your goal, I'd double up the flexplates...

I'd be willing to bet that the noise you heard was the t/c hub snapping into the crankshaft. They commonly rust (both pieces), and don't go in nicely until cleaned, lubed, and installed straight in.

I would get a flex plate from Kiggly racing instead of 2 factory ones.

He doesn't make them for 7 bolts, only 6 bolts. And I found that when I was installing my converter, I snapped the pump gear. So, I ordered a new pump and gears for it. I know that people have ran 9's on 2 stacked flexplates.

I'll let everyone know how everyhting else goes! Thanks for the help.
