2G 97 auto trans in 96 GSX?

Will an automatic transmission from a 97 GSX work in a 96 GSX? I currently have a 96 GSX with stock auto transmission, but can buy a 97 GSX auto transmission that I wanted to rebuild. Will this transmission work in my 96 with the 96 T-case, rear diff, etc? Or are they ratios different?

Rear differential gear ratios are all the same between 2G automatics. BUT the transfer case ratio is different betweein 91-96 and 97-99, one is 1.090 and one is 1.07ish, long story short a matching transfercase is needed.
