medicine hat,
just wondering how hard would a shift kit is to install in these transmitions? is it something i should get a shop to do? or would i be able to tackle this job in my garage? any links to a walkthrough would be great. btw im getting a new trany put in later this month...so i could get them to do it at the same time....i just dont wanna spend alot more if its a pretty basic and easy thing to tackle myself.

its not hard taking out the valve body but putting the shift kit itself in takes some knowledge. i woulda never got it down without some help from a friend that had done it to his Gsx.

best mod i've spent money on if you ask me though! ha

good luck

yeah, maybe its best if i leave it to the mechanic at the dealer. How long does something like this take? i mean he will have the old trany out already....and will be swapping in the new one...so its not like hes gotta pull the whole thing appart, just for the shift kit install.

once u drop the pan the valve body is right there so the trans can be in the car.

And how much is the dealer charging you to do this? 5 grand? I would never take my car to a dealer to have tranny/motor work done. Find a reputable shop to do it, they will most likely charge half the price the dealer would.

what difference would a new valve body make? would it be much different then just adding the shift kit? i refuse to take my car to anyone other than the dealer, because no small shops in town know ANYTHING about these cars....besides warrenty is covering the trany swap....i may have to pay for the shift kit install....but they also might be able to charge the time it takes to put it in, to the warrenty company......

unless your going full race IMO shift kit and some sort of medium stall converter is all u'd need. redline C+ trans fluid and your good :) i wish i woulda got my restall converter damnit LOL:thumb:

so what would be the real difference between a whole new valve body and just adding a shift kit? also....i was under the impression that redline trany fluid was a poor choice of fluid for our tranies??

i've never had a problem w/ it its the only trans fluid i'd use on my cars. not cheap stuff though but its worth it. not sure as i only have the shift kit but its the best $70 ive ever spent :)
