OKay this car is starting to bug me now. Got my JDM motor in and it's running awesome. little problems with the motor but those are all cleared up. okay i drained the tranny. let it drip for oh 25 minutes while i did some other things. then i put 4 qt in started it put in another did this till i got in tghe 7qt it called for. because i had all the cooler lines off everything was empty.

Well i put the car back on it's tires very excited but it into R NOTHING not a click clunk it's like i didn't even put it into gear i play around with it I put it into P then rev it to 3 k while it's revving down i put it into R and revved to 2k it goes in smooth doesn't clunk like you would think it would for the motor being at a higher rpm

Well once it's in gear i drive it a littlee it works. put it into R D 2 and L everything works. okay here is where it gets wierd. I stomp on it pulled hard soon as i let off the gas nothing no tranny again. slipped it into all gears nothing what so ever.

I play around with it get it back into gear doing the rev thing above.
I drive it back to the house i break stand on it when in drive it tries really hard to over power the breaks i didn't feel much slip so the TC feels strong.
please tell me this is something stupid.

Why when i give it lots of power it loses the tranny again?

Update

The filter was totally plugged they took the magnets out of there so there was that grey metal crap you get from a tranny that's not treated too well all over the pan and totally plugged the filter would this cause my problem?

Maybe, have you cleaned the stuff out and refilled. I'm a little confused as to when they changed the filter.

But sometimes an auto tranny that hasn't been changed in a really long time will be ruined when you change the tranny fluid. The worn metals are in the old fluid, they were holding the tranny together enough to work. Then you drained out that fluid, and the wear aterials with it. Not the tranny does not work because the stuff is all gone. It's something to do with either worn metal or other materials of the auto trannies.

If you still have the old fluid, dump the new fluid, and put the old back in, it might work again.:coy:

Man i think your right,
Everything cleaned won't go into gear it's totally dead.
I never thought the metal crap in there was holding it together.

ahhh dangit good motor now and no tranny.
This car is out to get me

Guessing rebuilding a tranny is pretty hard or expensive too isn't it?

Yeah I think an auto tranny is one of the most complicated parts on a car.

I would expect to get it rebuilt for about $1500-$2000, including pulling, rebuilding and replacing it.

If I were in your shoes, I would look for a used one. Probably about $500-$1000. I bought a used MT for a 1.8 once for $150, so it just depends on the condition, etc..

And call auto slavage yards in your area, and the DSMTuners Classifieds.

You could even buy a used one for right now, and maybe rebuild the other one later after you get some miles out of the car.

How long have you owned this car?

Also, I wonder if any of these salvage yards will consider offers? I mean some of them want $1000 for a used tranny. I think that's kinda high, considering there is either no warranty or only a 90 day warranty on these used trannies (if memory serves me correct).

It's not like these things don't die. If I were spending close to the same amount for used as opposed to rebuilt, I would definitely go rebuilt. That way it can be updated and you know there should be no issues to plague you later. Key operative is should.

Also make sure if you don't already have one to install an aftermarket trans cooler. A really nice medium size one. Heat is the big killer on these and all automatic transmissions. Every degree you drop the temp is rewarded by longer life.
Good Luck

Is there any chance this could be the TCU?
or something relating to that?

I have one plug on my motor i can't for the life of my find a home for *see pic*

Also where is the TCU sitting

I am getting a check engine light when i turn on the ignition do tranny codes come through here?

Or am i beating a dead house and the tranny is gone. :beatentodeath:

Thanks

Some new info
I pulled teh tranny cooler line off noticed the fluid was not being pumped so i used an air compresser to push air through the lines and tranny and flush out more crap.
put it all back together with some of that tranny valve seal leak stop and it started the cat. nothing pulled hte line off again notice it was still not pumping.

So i took the air gun and shot air into the tranny fluid fill hole. car popped right into gear and stay in gear for a while then popped out. as the rtanny warmed up it kept it's self in gear unless i really got on it. then it would sometimes fall back into N when the BOV kicked. but zero tranny slip that i could feel. but the weird thing is when i turned the car off and back on the tranny was dead again until i shot it with air.

Does the tranny have a fluid pump that could be shot?
