WTF I never have O/D on and I go over 75 all the time, only difference with over drive on is your rpm's will be lower.napkinthief said:speaking from personal experience, you cant over 75ish without od

DO YOU NEED OVERDRIVE??
Overdrive is your 4th gear in a 4-spd automatic! People here are driving around in 3rd gear and saying the heck with shifting to 4th? It's a freakin automatic for crying out loud!! Why would anyone want to drive continuously with engine rpm's at ridiculously high speeds? Is it you need a new engine anyway or are you getting that 12 cent gas from Venezuella?

siceclipse said:its not critical. it acts like a 5th gear setup. You turn it on when going up a hill so it downshifts easier so you can get up the hill more smothely and its good on the highway to bring your RPMs down when taking a long cruise.
If you're going UP a hill you MIGHT want to turn the OD OFF not ON so that you're holding the trans in 3rd gear which puts you at higher rpms's and in a more useable power range of your engine which you MIGHT need for a hill climb.
misguided people
are leaving the OD button in the off position which means they're always in 3rd gear and it sounds like (never will try this myself) if you do this then at somewhere between 80 and 100 mph (ridiculously high rpms in this gear) it will finally shift out of 3rd and into lock-up mode and it never actually gets into OD or 4th gear at all because the switch is being left in the off position. Now I know why M/T guys look down on us A/T guys and think we're a bunch of idiots and it's because of stuff like this. Someone please explain to me why anyone would want to drive around at these ridiculously high rpms UNLESS you are purposely trying to kill your motor? If you're looking to buy a car try to get one that has at least 4 pistons and 4 working gears in the trans napkinthief said:at 75ish for my, the engine hits 6500 and it feels liek you when revin netural and hold the gas down and let the engine keep revving, the rpms drop like 300 then go back to 6500 and repeat
