I was just curious to why when I manually put my car in 2nd gear it accelerates alot stronger, faster and better than it does when I put it in Drive. This a/t is really getting annoying sometimes when I give it gas it really takes its' time and waits for the turbo to kick in before it tries at all. When I put it in 2nd gear, accelerate and then let go of the gas and put it into drive the acceration is amazing. Obviously my 2nd gear is OKAY because it feels REALLY good when I manually select that gear.

Is that something that comes with a/t's? Is my computer messed up? Someone help me out here because I really feel like I'm being robbed of speed, and I feel like I'm wasting alot of time and money thinking my car is fast when it really isn't compared to others.

Well when you manually put your car in second, you're tranny has locked up into second gear. If you want the quick engagement, a torque converter from IPT :thumb: , and Translab shift kit are two really good ways to improve your tranny. Also i would recommend installing a stack plate designed tranny cooler, and a full synthetic ATF line Redline. The shift kit and tranny cooler alone are a good upgrade, and will infact help extend the life of your tranny. Take it from my experience...Upgrade your tranny before you start to make more power... that way you won't have to have you're tranny rebiult when you pop it!!! :talon:

Well whenever I'm locked into 2nd gear and I hit the gas the throttle response and the speed and power are 20000x better than I would have gotten if I hit the gas with it in 'Drive'. Is it suppose to be like that?

yep...drive a couple other auto and put them into a lower gear and they'll do the same exact thing.

your car is not faster in second gear because the shifter is on 2. There is absolutly no mechanical difference from when the shifter sits on D and you take off in second than when the shifter is on 2 and you take off in second. Same thing.

The car might feel slower in D cause your trans is in 3rd. Other than that, no difference.

If I prefer to accelerate from a red light or stop sign with more throttle response and speed should I lock it into 2nd everytime?

if you prefer to leave the line with more response and accelerate faster get a high stall converter, otherwise it makes absolutely zero difference.

The only difference would be if you had intake manifold and cams and wanted to stay in gear longer than 6500rpms. Otherwise no difference.

I take it back, there could be a small difference in what gear the transmission is sitting in. For instance if at a stop your car is sitting in 2nd or 3rd gear (wich it shouldn't be, it should be in first) but lets say for whatever reason it's not in first (it's happened to me before too) the trans will have to down shift into 1rst gear before instead of just taking off imediatly in first.

I suppose if your trans is being finneky you can put it in 1rst at the light so it's in first, and then throw it in Drive after you leave the line, unless you have a broad top end.
