Hey guys i was wondering what is your opinion... there is this really nice 98 auto GSX for sale, and i was wondering do you think i should buy it? i have a MT dsm right now and i love it it feels like i'm racing even while going 30 mph with the stick shift... is it just as fun with a automatic? also is it ALOT slower? i drove my friends stock GSX 5spd and whooped a stock srt-4, i think a auto may not stand a chance.... also do you think i should buy a gsx, or a gst? is the gsx ALOT slower on a roll? because some races start at a red light, and some races start when a civic blows by on the highway LOL.... i dunno i feel like a automatic seems more easier and more comfy... just lean back and drive, in my eclipse now i have to be close so i can hit the clutch and sometimes it gets reallllllll hard in traffic.... i guess my basic question is... what benifits does automatic have over manual? also is there a HUGE performance differance between the GSX auto and the GSX manual? help me out.... just gemme your opinions...

Once you drive AWD on a rainy day, your life is ruined. Anything else you ever drive again will make you go, "GodDAMN I miss AWD". And snow is even worse. Not having to fiddle with a clutch in the snow is even that much more damaging to you. And with what Florida's weather has been doing so far, you might wind up with snow this year.

If your car is for your Speed Racer pantomimes, you may not want an automatic- unless you know about Jim Hall's Chaparral racers of the seventies.

Automatics are not a lot slower, and they're disconcerting to the stick driver for about the first dozen stop and starts. They take a different knack to be truly smooth with both in slowing down and in taking off- particularly when leaving from a stoplight with your foot on the brake and going over to the throttle, until like learning with a clutch it suddenly becomes second-nature. But they also have their advantages, such as at a stop sign at the crest of a hill in Frisco. And you'll never burn up a clutch.

I'd say jump on it just for being AWD. You know you'd have no trouble selling it if you don't like it.

GSX all the way...Im sure the gst has a lil more pick up from a roll than an awd but not by much. As for the tranny thing I have an auto, I still enjoy driving it and its convenient as hell. Not much worries on crankwalk and with a shift kit, upgraded end clutches, and upgraded torque converter will make your tranny run and feel better. GSX is the way to go and the tranny is ur preference theres a few guys on here that are in low 13s and high 12s with auto trannys.Fastest 2g gsx auto is russ coxe who is in like low 10s..I dunno its all in ur preference but just dont think the auto cant be made fast when it can.

Your tranny can always be built up. just think... perfect shifts everytime.

i keep up with the manuals just fine, an auto in a turbo car making good power is not a disadvantage.

:thumb: Agreed!, Auto Awd here, Love it, Its going to have IPT's end clutches/shift kit done to it this winter and i can't wait. Don't worry if its auto, I got howned for getting one, yeah I'd probley like a 5spd, but in winter, and things like that, less to worry about. Take it for a test drive it you can. and as Defiant said

you will understand :thumb: Good luck!

Its wierd Im kind of like the opposite, I have driven M/T's before I moved to A/T's. and for some reason I love my A/T. Sure there are some disadvantages but are you always going to be drag racing or racing all the time down the street??? And with the proper upgrades and tuning with both your A/T and engine setup you should be able to do just fine.

Hey TDX, your profile mentions you have a fully-built A/T-- did somebody in Naples/SoFla do that for you?

Yes, I live in the Naples, FL area - and I know a very reliable Tranny Specialist. Reasonable Price and is backed up by a warranty.

Auto AWD here. 13.29 @ 102.9 and getting quicker by the week. Hope to get into 12's on Tuesday. My competition (in my mind) is not M/T DSM's, it's my coworker's 13.1 @ 105 Mustang!

...anyways, Russ went into the 9's a week or so ago :thumb:
