I have a 97 gst,5spd, super20g, all supporting mods.... etc.... i'm thinking of converting to automatic.... getting a big stall, etc.... what size stall would i need, i should have full boost by 3700 or so...... I like racing from a stop which i find almost impossible even with my lsd.... i think i'd be much more consistant with an auto.... also what problems am i going to run into while converting.... so far i know i need a tranny cooler, tcm, automatic starter..... whate else will i need.... also if anyones thinking of going from auto to 5spd i have a fwd gst tranny, perfect condition with lsd, and new flywheel w/act 2100 clutch.... let me know any info or if anyones interested in going to 5spd.

You will probably need a stall speed in the 3800-4200 rpm range (there is more to proper converter performance than stall speed).

As far as the electronic part of the swap- you may be better served by using a stand alone transmission controller, rather than trying to deal with the factory tcu.

You should try to sell everything that you take out of the car that is related to the manual trans as a package for someone who is trying to do the swap.

That is one of the most awsome things I have ever read on this site. A guy that is wanting to go from a manual to Auto. I can't count how many times I have read on this site how everyone hates our auto's, how our resale si so bad with an auto, and everything that goes with the auto vs manual argument. MAD MAD props to you man for going against the croud and joining the auto side. I think you will find that once you get the auto that you will be more consistant and easier to drive....

You are going to need a lot of stuff for a manual to auto swap, are you planning on routing the translines through the radiator?" If so you are going to need the trans cooler, lines, radiator, TCU, trans, motor mounts, intior pieces..... There is a lot of guys out there that are doing the auto to manual swap, just post for someone to do a clean trade with you and both of you swap everything that is needed. You might be able to get out with making some money considering you have a act/lsd setup.

Then take your auto before you install and send it to john....

By the way John, why are you not a Wiseman? You should change your name to TRANSGOD!! The ultimate transguru or something.....
