2G-specific A/T fluid change, what's best?

It's time to replace the fluid in my '97 GS-T tranny. I want to service this car myself. I have a lack of trust for anyone else working on my car.

The Mitsubishi service manual says to remove a couple of drain plugs and the pan. Does this completely drain the fluid? Won't the TC still remain full?

The dealer and local lube shops will do a fluid change through the cooler lines. It's pretty expensive and I haven't been able to find any DIY instructions here or anywhere else.

What's the best way you've found to replace your fluid?
(Yes, I'm new to DSM's)

I get it. Leave a guy hang'n long enough and he'll eventually find the answer to his own question. :o

I scoured every post ever made by transdude and found one line that answered my second question. Disconnect the cooling line, run the engine with the trans in neutral and fill the trans while the coolant drains.

What about the Mitsu method? Is the amount of fluid drained sufficient?

Hi,

The above method will get all of the fluid out if you run enough new stuff through it. You usually can stop when the fluid coming out looks clean.

You still have to remove the pan to replace the filter, though. John, how often is a filter change recommended? Do you need to do it every time you change the fluid?
