More often than not, when I'm out driving around, I notice that my tranny seems to be a little indecisive about what gear it wants to be in. I use the overdrive like I should...off around town and on backroads, and on when I'm on the highway or the freeway. And I also drive my car like it's made of glass. In any given week, my car MIGHT see RPM's over 4500 once or twice, so it could be the way I drive.

This usually happens during around-town driving with the OD off where the speed limit is between 25 and 35. It just feels like it's taking longer than it should to decide on a gear. Everything's gravy when it does, but for the couple seconds when it's switching, I can't help but look at my tach and wonder: "What the HELL are you DOING!?"

Another thing I notice is that when I'm coming to a stop, once I drop down below 30 or 40mph, then click off the OD, the downshifts seem a little jerky. It could be just the characteristics of the tranny, because when I had my fluid and filter changed not too long ago, my mechanic said that everything looked beautiful. Anyone ever experience the same?

You are correct with the way you treat your tranny. O/d off at anything below 40 mph. I fiddle with my o/d alot too, but i be sure to leave it alone when im driving , unless if i am going above 40, i click it in. When you are slowing down, dont press the o/d, just let the tranny do its thing.

I think i can relate to you here. My tranny when the o/d is on and im goin to like 40mph, the rpms start to rise and fall. Its strange and im thinkin to myself too, "what the hell are you doing." i dont know wut it could be. In my case i think it could be the over drive clutch. For you i dont know
