I was sick of my MBC over-boosting and the boost creep problem I was having with my EVO 16g so I started looking into the EBC's and picked the E-BOOST TURBOSMART boost controller. After reading up on it on there web-site and seeing all the options and hearing some positive things about it I got it.
The E-BOOST comes in to versions a 40psi unit and a 60psi unit, I picked the 40.
Install is pretty straight forward. You have the boost silenoid which is mounted in the engine compartment and the "gauge" style controller which is mounted in the drivers area of the car.
1. Mount the boost controller solinoid somewere in the engine compartment were it is not directly affected by engine heat or moving parts. I choose the airbox location.
2. The solinoid has 2 wires that run back to the cab so you will need to run those.
3. There are 3 boost ports on the solenoid.
1- goes to the wastegate actuator
1- goes to the intake pipe BEFORE the throttle body. I installed mine right before the 3" GM MAS.
1- is just a vent so I put a 6" piece of hose on it, and angled it down to keep out any dirt or mositor.
Mounting the gauge/controoler:
This is really easy, The hardest part was grinding the gauge cup for it to fit. (the e-boost is 2 5/8" or 66mm). After carfully grinding the cup with my DREMEL I had a nice snug fit.
The E-BOOST has a total of 8 wires and one small boost hose coming out of it. For my install I only needed to install 4.
RED WIRE- +12V SWITCHED THROUGH IGNITION
BLACK WIRE- GROUND
GREY WIRE - SOLENOID WIRE 1
BROWN WIRE- SOLINOID WIRE 2
The other wires were for if you wanted to control W/I or NOS ect. and 2 other external set points.
Now the second boost source for the controller I just T-ed off my existing boost gauge.
And thats it!!
Setup:
The E-BOOST has 3 seperate boost set points and will always defualt to set point one.
I compare it to like having a high and low boost setting(s) with one extra.
There is also a audiable alarm, overboost setting, peak hold fuction, and the ability to control how fast the wastegate opens!!
Another cool fuction is the ability to control boost sensitivity.
Theres really no need to go into it more as the instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. I will say that boost is now rock steady and NO MORE BOOST CREEP!!!! I can set it to 10psi if I wanted to and it handles it.
