Review #2: FP Aluminum Flywheel Hardware Kit
Ok here is a quick review and a heads ups on the Forced Perfomance Flywheel Hardware Kit.
I'm little bitter about this kit but let me tell you this right away and explain later DO NOT USE THE PRESSURE PLATE STUDS/PLATED NUTS!!!! THEY ARE TOTAL JUNK.
Anyways, now to the detail. The flywheel was Fidanza aluminum flywheel, the clutch/pp was SPEC Stage 3. Both brand new.
The install went smooth at first. I did not have to tap the crank since the threads were deep enought to accept the longer flywheel bolts. The flywheel bolts went in no problem. Then i start to put the cluth pressure plate on using FP stud/nuts that came with the kit thinking "they must be better over stock"....well not so... On FP web they say the studs will take up 28 lb/ft of torque. So i'm torquing them all down in a star pattern to ensure I'm distrbuting the pressure evenly and not pinching one of the studs when i notice all of the studs make the pressure plate come in contact with the flywheel @ 22lb/ft, expect one which had good 1 mm gap. So thinking it much be pressure plate problem i go ahead and back up the nut till it's almost out of the stud. Then clamp the pressure plate down which took just little force with a clamp. But when i proceed to tighten the nut back down with my 3/8" ratchet wrench using minimal force as the nut has not even made contact with pressure plate THE STUD SNAPS ATE THE BASE OF THE FLYWHEEL!!
Soooo i had to take everything apart again and drill out the stud at work. Wasn't such a big deal since i have free access to a mill, but it did pushed all my plans back by a week. I would really be pissed if i had to pay to have it removed!
I ended up taking all the stud out and throwing them away since they are POS and got some 10.9 grade (SAE grade 8) M8-1.25 bolts from Sears Hardware to do the trick.
So in a nut shell:
FP Flywheel bolts/spacer- three thumbs up
FP Pressure plate studs/nuts- five thumbs down
