I have a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse w/ Standard Speaker mounts. So any named brand 6x9 speakers will not fit in years 88-94.
*Important* The rear side paneling will have to be modified with an exacto knife. Which will be demonstrated with a later image.
These are "Dual" 6x9 3-way Speakers from BestBuy. Not the best , but do the job.
Also , make sure that you ask there install department for the correct conversion connections for the wiring.
The first thing that must be done is unplugging the battery.
After the battery is unplugged , the fun part begins. Taking off the side panel from the rear. This is slitly difficult if you do not know how to take off a side panel there are little snap on clips that hold the panel on the car frame.
- How to remove clips
- Press down on center of clip.
- Pull sides up and out.
The next step is taking off the side panel. Which pops off with 3 panel clips that are really easy to remove. As you can see in the image, the white clip at the top left.
Now you can move to removing the old speakers. To do so, you will need a phillips head screw driver.
Make sure that you are really tidy about things so in case you want to sale or buy new side panels and place your old speakers back in and sale the vehicle.
For the modification on the side panel you will need about an 1"-1"1/2 on the top and the bottom for the speakers to mount onto. You will also have to make the screws alignment after making the modification to the side panel.
After making the modification and the screw alignment. You are now ready to mount your speakers, make sure to pluge in the speakers before mounting. While mounting it would be best to have someone there to help hold the speakers so they dont move and strip the holes that you made. There are speaker screw restraints so your speakers to not shake the screws loose.
After all said and done the finished product should look like this.
This can be done with any 6x9" Speakers that do not have mounts to fit an 88-94 Eclipse/Talon/Laser
Hope this article can help you with your car modifications. I know it helped me a lot.
*I am about to run a line from the front to the rear speakers for the neons. I will also post pictures of that and get images of the speaker screw harness.
