Bolt on Fullthrottle Speed AFPR install notes(1g)
Just installed my fullthrottle speed bolt on AFPR for a 1g I bought from DSMparts.com. They even priced matched fullthrottle price ;). A few things you might want to have before starting the install:
A size 2.5(bolts adapter plate onto fuel rail), size 3(seperates AFPR from adapter plate), and size 3/8(removes plug for the gauge port) hex head wrench or attachment.
I didn't have the size of the hex wrench to adjust pressure, but its the same size used for the HKS SSQV bov.
Teflon tape ( I used this on any fitting I was screwing in)
a rag to catch the gas that leaks out.
High pressure fuel line (not sure on size) to replace the old fuel return line. I bought 2 feet just in case. Ended up cutting it quite a bit. The AFPR shortens the fuel return line distance about 3-4 inches. Take the fitting to the parts store to ensure correct size.
Install notes:
A quirk about 90 fuel rails is that they have this added flare on the end so that when you bolt the adapter plate on, its not going to bolt all the way down. Just bolt it down as far as it will go and when it starts to run into the obstruction, stop. I started to see metal shavings from the bolt grinding on the fuel rail before I noticed, oops. Another option is to grind those areas down before hand but I was too lazy to remove the fuel rail.
1. I would start with the adaptor plate seperated from the AFPR because its ALOT easier to install that way. You also will have to seperate them in order to screw in the fuel line return so might as well leave it that way.
2. I did my install on a 1990 AWD so relieving the fuel pressure was incredibly easy. Turn the car on, disconnected the fuel pump plug, and let the car die. Also opened the gas cap for extra relief. If fuel pressure isn't relieved, you'll have fuel dripping for quite some time.
AFPR holds fuel pressure judging from my B&M fuel pressure gauge kit. I bought the kit for the 90 adapter fitting and the gauge. Part number #46054. I could have installed it on the fuel filter, but didn't want to go thru the trouble of removing my strut tower bar and battery for easy access. It was about to rain and I was short on time =/ . No leaks on start up.
Well just wanted to provide a few install notes, easier way to install the afpr, and extra things I've encountered. I'll provide some pix when I can get around to it.
