2G-specific How To Replace your SRS ECU

How To Replace your SRS ECU

WARNING: DSMTuners.com or I will NOT be held accountable for any mishaps you might have during this easy project.

Need to replace your SRS ECU and don’t feel like paying the $700+ that the Dealership will charge you for parts and labor? By buying a used SRS ECU or finding one from the junkyard you can do this fix easily by doing this yourself, not to mention the money you’ll save. I did this application on my 1998 GSX with a used $35 1999 Eclipse GS SRS ECU.

Parts Needed
1.Compatible SRS ECU new, or you can find one in the Classifieds section or your local junkyard for CHEAP(just make sure the numbers match on the SRS ECU unit with the one you have in your vehicle, whether you have a GS,RS,GS-T or GSX does NOT matter).

Tools:
10mm open or socket wrench
Screwdriver
Etc..

1.
First things first before you do any work; make sure you DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE doing any work to prevent a discharge of the Airbags (negative first, positive last, and the opposite when you reconnect them). Make sure you wait at least 15 minutes to give all the capacitors time to discharge.

2.
Make sure all your Airbag wires are connected because if any work has been done to your car and they have been disconnected then they will set off your SRS light. (The color of the wires should be a bright yellow and/or red).

3.
Now its time to take out the center console, there should only be 4 screws holding it down, 2 on each side by the back and 2 underneath the cigarette and cup holder assembly (just pull up the cigarette and cup holder assembly to remove it). Remove the shift knob by twisting it and you should be able to pry out the whole assembly (Refer to your Haynes manual for a more detailed explanation).

4.
Now press down on the clip on the male socket connecting to your SRS ECU and slowly pull it out. Now remove the 4 nuts on each corner of the SRS ECU plate. Do NOT remove the screws holding the box to the plate or drop it. Place your replacement SRS ECU on your plate where your old SRS ECU once was and work yourself backwards until you have completed your work (remember to ONLY reconnect your battery when all work is finished to prevent any discharge of the airbags).

Note: Your SRS light should automatically turn off if the SRS ECU unit you used to replace your old one is good.
