I decided to make a diffuser a while back when I had only found one for sale which didnt flow with the rear bumper at all. Mines made outa fiberglass painted flat black with some clear on top of that. I thinking of painting the bolts black so they will will be less noticeable. Heres some pics.

Havent really thought about that. Damn metarial costed more than expected so it ai'nt too cheap. PM if your serious, I'd have to look over the receipts.

Props man that looke really nice. Get some stainless allen bolts and put them the other way so all you can see is the head.

How do you know if that thing really works?

Yeah, the bolts would look much better turned over, the stick out alittle to much. Besides that, it looks awsome. I was thinking about something like that. I think it would look really good with my 97-98 talon rear.

Apologies for not looking first, but the "right" way to do it would be with carriage bolts, but they don't have anything to grip the head with, and have a square shank just below the head to grip the fastened part. Next best would be round-head with Philips slots, but again the problem is reaching the nuts on the inside.

How about Dzus fasteners?

Looks like it work, but who really knows. I just loved how diffusers looked on RX-7's so I sorta followed that path. It's not too low, and would flow with a RSDM front lip really nicely. Now the rear of the car has that little lowered effect it needed. Looks awesome in person, you cant see the bolts unless you actually get down on your knees and look for them. I wanted to put the bolts the other way around but it would be impossible to tight'n them since the nut's are unreachable.

Is their any way you could put the lip of the bumper over the edge of the diffuser. That would look 10x better, not that it looks bad though :thumb: .

Let us know if you have a problem scraping on any thing. I doubt it since it still looks a good bit higher than the front.

Ok now my question is why?

I mean sure, it looks cool, but rear diffusers don't have much effect until very high speeds, unless you are planning on building a 160mph+ DSM.

I give you kudos for a job well done, just gotta ask why. :thumb:

Very nice work...

I agree with trying to see about mounting it so that the rear pumper is around the outside edge.

Definetely post pricing for them... As I have yet to see a rear diffuser for our cars anywhere. And I'm sure it would generate money or possibly run it by a company like VIS or something and see if they'll make them, etc.

Very well done for such a custom, one off job.

Not sure it would be all that functional on a street car but it does look pretty. :thumb:

I think you answerd your own question. It f*#n looks cool. I am way more performance oriented than looks but I still have to say that it adds a very sweet look to the back of the car, and as long as it's done right I can't see it hurting the performance.

I will see about costs, but it would probably be more than a front lip just to give you an idea. I'm not too sure on the forums selling laws here, so I dont know if I can post a price.

how on earth did you make a mold for that ..?.. please explain

Luke

i guess iam dumb but what does it function as or for.... not on the eclipse but in general?

looks awesome, i'd love to see a how to on that sort of thing.

Not gonna go into detail, but basically it is for high speed aerodynamics and stability, not something most DSM's need to be concerned with, but they do look damn cool! :D

Just wondering so clearence wont be an issue.... What's the widest tire someone would have? I built it around my 225's with space to spare. If the widest is 235 then it should be fine. Also, does everyone have a piece of metal above the bumper lip like my car had? With holes that match up with the bumpers holes. I'm also still thinking about the bolts and how I can make em undetectable. I plan on building another one this week to see how long it will take since I have the mold and experience already. I really can't say how much it would cost untill I see how long it takes me to make another one. If it doesnt take me as long as the the first one it'll be worth it. I'm so excited there will be more diffusers on 2nd gen's. :)

You could epoxy the nut to the top side of the diffuser and use some low profile bolts, like allen bolts that feed through the bottom vs. the top.
