I bought a car alarm off of ebay with just about every feature possible. Remote start, 2 way remote, remote windows, etc.

I was quoted at a car place for the install to be $600.

How possible is it to install this myself? It came with a nice help guide for the install as well as afew other documents. Is it feasible to wire something this complex myself or should I shop around for the best price?

Also, what price should I consider reasonable?

Recomendations?

Read the instructions and hook it up. If either of these is beyond you, hire it out.

We don't know your skill levels, so we can't guess how tough it is. But for $600, most people could carve their own alarm out of soap.

I can solder....do basic stuff like that. Hooking up an SAFC I could do. I have zero experience in alarms though, and have no idea where the wires they specify are located at. I do have all the shop manuals, however.

Is it pretty basic to get accomplished and what is a reasonable price for an install?

Shops usually jack up the install price if you didn't buy the unit from them. The install is actually pretty easy in DSMs, if you have basic electronics skills(testing wires, soldering, etc) and common sense you should have no problem at all.I have been installing them for over a decade and have experience with nearly all units on the market, and can answer any questions you may have.

I just installed a remote starter 2 way pager alarm sytem on my 95 talon. It was pretty simple. The hardest part was finding where the existing wires were located in the car. Do a search for 'car alarm wiring' and that should give you threads with all the info you need or just ask me, I found a few shortcuts.

Thanks for the help guys. What sort of price should I be looking for to have someone install if for me? I was thinking of offering one of the guys a side job so they get the full pay...

For doing it myself..I think I'd sooner shop around first. I need my car and it can't have much down time because of college.

Prices could be from $50-$300, its hard to say.An average "on the side" install should run you in the $100 range.
