Custom Enclosure

I have a 97 Eclipse RS and a 12" ECLIPSE sub. I want to build a custome box that fits into the space where the spare goes The only problem is there is a brace that is used to hold the spare in place. Is this brace serving a structural purbose or can I remove it. I want that clean look for the trunk with just a little BOOM. Hit me back with some info. Thanx

have u actually looked at that thing.. I dont think it comes out.. i was looking at it yesterday.. it looks like its all one piece..

i got some heavy duty pliers and ripped that son of a ***** out. there are light weld spots that hold it together. just beat it up, it will come out.

I was wondering if it was heavy duty for a reason. Im worried that if I tremove it I'll weaken the frame or some crap that will turn out to be expensive to fix later on. If anyone else has done this let me know. I want to be well informed before I start wailing on it with a sledge hammer.

hey man, i just took a 4" grinder and cut that thing out. or you could beat it up to get it out, or even drill through the spot welds. i am pretty sure it serves no purpose other than holding the spare tire. by the way, if you want to cut it out, make sure you cover the sides of your car to protect your paint cuz the sparks go a flyin!
