I posted this on the other sites to get as much info from ppl as possible:

I tried searching but couldn't find what I was looking for. I want to get a new steering wheel for my 1G, as it is now peeling and fading. Problem is, I don't feel like spending alot of money for a non-performance mod like this. So I found this:

Its withing my budget and looks simple enough, nothing crazy. I don't know the first thing about aftermarket steering wheels though. For those with 1g's, what should I do to prep something like this and what other material's would I need (ie hub, extra bracket...)? Would this steering wheel work and what should I ask the vendor if I need to ask anything? I really want to keep this under $100, else it's spending too much on a non performance mod. Any help/input is appreciated.

Good-condition used wheels show up on eBay for $30.

Otherwise, aftermarket wheels are usually aluminum plates cut to shape, padded and upholstered, and with six holes around the hub. You buy an adapter hub which fits the car, and the wheel is held on it by the screws.

The hub is held on the steering shaft by a nut which holds it down onto a taper, and splines which keep it from spinning. The taper often seizes, which you answer with a steering wheel hub puller.... oh, and to get away from standard practice, and to sell mechanics even more specialized goddamned tools, GM has just come out with a wheel that won't accept standard pullers. The brainless bastards.

Factory wheels are seldom separate from their hub, they're all one piece.
