help w/ system install on 2G

My friend just picked up a 98 eclipse with the factory infinity stereo. He wants to put in 2 10" subs, amp, etc. I'm not sure if the factory stereos have RCA preouts to run to the amp. Is there any way to hook an aftermarket amp up to the factory stereo? Would that be a good or bad idea?

Can be done, but a whole lot easier to accomplish with a aftermarket head unit.
Get a in line converter to do the job. The best ones I have used were the ones from radioshack. Get one with very few wires!

your best bet is to get an aftermarket head unit and go from there.

If you want simple/cheap/quick, go with the lineout convertor. I you would like quality/involved, get an aftermarket HU. There are schematics here to show you how to rewire the factory amp with an aftermarket HU
