I am rewiring my headlight circuit to handle more amps for my new headlight bulbs. I need to know if this circuit wiring is correct. I have it wired up right now except with the car running, and the headlights turned on the high beam indicator is lighted regardless if the high beams are on or not. If I try to turn on the high beams, they do not light. Nothing changes at all. Other then that, everything works fine. The new relay I added engages and everything. I also changed the wire gauge to what it should be at for the amout of amps I will be drawing. Don't mind the X's. That is just showing that the wire size was changed. Please give me your ideas! Thanks a lot!!

It sounds like we are both having the same problem. I just installed a pilot H4 conversion kit in my 90 TSI, it replaces the stock sealed beam lights. When I first got them wired in the hi beam indicator was on in either psition. If I unhooked the bulbs it (indicator) would work fine. So I've decided that the wiring is not capable of handling the amps of the new H4 bulbs. Then I got thinking, why is it that both power wires to the bulbs have power in the low beam position and one has power in the high position? From what I know when you are in low beam you have power to the lo beam element, then when you are in hi you have power to the hi beam element. Also when you hold the stalk towards yourself both elements have power. Before I go off on a ten page explanation, what kind of bulbs are you using? If anyone reading this knows any information that can help us please reply, it really sucks spending $$$ to upgrade your lights and then having no high beams.

Oh I got them working great. I just installed a diode right after one of the fuses so I didn't get reverse flow through the circuit. I can let you know where, I just need to find my diagram at the house. I am using some hid style bulbs from carparts.com. I think they are like PPG or something. Can't remember for sure.

Actually I think it was the YR wire right after the fuse for the high beams in the above diagram. Take that fuse out, and let me know how it works. I just had the fuse out for awhile.

So your saying take the fuse out?? Or replace it with a diode?? Or what?? I'm confused. Does your Hi beam indicator work?? Sorry for all the questions but i'm frustrated. Thanks for the help:cry:

You have everything wired up right? What happens? Does everything work? Take out the high beam fuse (dedicated fuse #3) and tell me what happens then. Mine worked just fine after that, I just didn't have a high beam indiacator. Taking that fuse out works because the headlights do not recieve current flow in the other direction. To make it work properly with the fuse inplace, you will have to splice a diode in place where the yr wire is right after the dedicated fuse. Your high beam indiactor will work after you splice in the diode.

Ok I tried to pull the fuse and nothing changed except the indicator went out. My problem is that when I'm in the low beam position both bulb elements are lit and the lights are extremely dim, when i'm in the high beam position they are nice and bright. Do you know why both elements are getting power in the low beam position? Do I have to re-wire my circuit too? I am using higher wattage bulbs (100/80). Do you have pop-ups??

No, I don't have popups. If your high wattage bulbs are dim, you have excessive resistance somwhere in the circuit. Either a bad grount etc. You could have possibly melted a wire somewhere. First, I would check everything out. Just make a good visual inspection. Then, let me know. Also, both elements shouldn't be lit. It is hard to tell what is going on without seeing it, but make sure that your steering colmn switch isn't bad.

Ok now they are working good but opposite, I still haven't pulled the fuse but my indicator is working just backwards. I was studying the diagram today and compared it to a GM diagram and wow do the DSM gods wire it strange. I'm getting closer to just rewiring it how I think it should be. I will take any hints, advise or ideas you have so keep em coming. Thanks
