Bolling AFB,
Hey,
Stock system, wondering what size speakers are in the dash? Ya know, the ones you can barely reach. Thinking of replacing all of my speakers, Just need the size of the one's in front.

i doubt you're gonna get the little grill on the stock speakers to fit any aftermarkets...not sure if anthing out there will fit in there, primarily because i've never seen it done before. i'd recommend a good component system for the front...or if you can't afford that, just some nice 2-way 6 1/2's for the doors.

If you get a component system most of the tweeters will fit up there. The problem is that most aftermarket tweeters are tiny (<2") where the stocks are about 3". I have a pair of Infinity Kappa tweets that I haven't installed because I can't figure out how. They fit, but I can't make them stable. The grill will fit right over mine, once I get them in. I test fitted it to make sure. But like I said, the problem is getting the smaller aftermarket tweets to sit stable.

they are saying that they have no problems putting tweets right into the dash. i havent tried nor would i want to, sound waves that close to a surface to bounce off of(the windshield) = bad sound

ohhh. i have tweeters in my stock dash locations, but they had to be custom mounted. i did it mainly to keep everything looking stock and actually it sounds suprisingly good, although i know nothing beats a pair of good kickpanels.

The sizing on the dash speakers is called 4T. Good luck on finding any decent exact replacements, go with a tweeter setup instead.

I know on my '91 talon the doors are 5 1/4" and the dash are 4". However, 4" speakers of any quality are hard to come by, so either invest in some bass blockers and wire those in, or buy some better quality 3 1/2s and put then in the dash place. Its really easy to get a 3 1/2 inch speaker to fit in that spot with some work. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, and by the way, the back speakers may look like 6 by 9s based on the grill pattern, but they're 6 1/2s. Incase you didn't know.

Um, the rears are not 6.5's they are 5x7's or 6x9's depending on the year. Hi quality 4's are not hard to come by if you look and cross them over properly. I have 2 6.5's in each door 4's in the dash and in kick panels and 4 Polk tweets in the same location. The 4's are strictly midrange and part of a 3 way setup.
6.5's will fit in the doors with no problem by removing the spacer POS and they will fit under the factory door panels. Don't waste your money on 5.25's

Maybe on the 92-94 and up they're 6 by 9s, but on my 91 talon there are only factory holes drilled for 6 1/2s. I'm sure you could put 6X9s in there if you drilled holes in the metal, but otherwise at least for 90 and 91s, they are 6 1/2s in the back.

well i know the back is 6x9 for a fact b/c i have two kenwood 6x9 in there, and you can put 6 1/2 in the doors and they fit perfict?

it all depends on the model of the car. I have a 93 GS non turbo and it has 6.5 in the back but the grill is meant for 6x9

I have a92 GS that came with 6 1/2's and I also have a 92 GST that came with 6x9's. The 6 1/2 can can worked with tin snips to fit a 6x9 also.

no what i was saying is that i have 6x9 that fit stock in the back no mods or anything. I just want to know if 6 1/2 will fit in the front door, that is why i posted this to find out what sizes the front is not the back, i already have back speakers.

A 6.5 will fit by simply removing the factory plastic mounting cup and maybe some slight cutting but that's it.
