That part is available from Road Race Engineering in fiberglass for about $50.

What function does a hood vent serve? :thumbdown

yea lowering engine temps is just plain stupid
we all know heat helps spool up

Engine is cooled by water, not some hole in your hood.

Its not for your engine, its for the intake air Temps. Cooler air makes the car run better overall. When air flows into the engine bay through your front bumper, it gets all swirled around in under your hood, the hot air just lingers, a large vent like that keeps cool air flowing smoothly through the enginebay

no function. i was gonna put it on my stock hood and sell it to some local ricer.

/sarcasm on

Of course! That must be why all the road course cars at Road Race Engineering have vents as well as Roy's car on the cover of this month's Sport Compact (USCC) - it's RICE.

Extracting heat from your car has nothing to do with helping overall performance ... don't you know that's why they dyno all cars with the hood down?

/sarcasm off

Come on, don't waste board's resources if you are not here to help. Note, you did post this in the Non-Performance Mods Forum so maybe I should chill out a bit but if someone asks answer truthfully.

its for looks. they why theyre there.

but you argue its for performance. so ill be awaiting your post with dyno results to back up your statements.

happy boosting.

Dyno results would prove nothing. Air temps would. If you put a sensor in a car without a vent and one with a vent you will find that air temps within the engine bay are much lower with the vent, Cooler air in the engine = better for engine. And yes the hot air just kinda 'hangs out' in the engine bay. Why do you guys think that people put in CAI and FMIC(maybe not FMIC) because air in the engine bay is not as cool as outside air and cooler= better.

However for the most part it is for looks, the power gains to cost ratio suggest that it would be for show.
