GreenBelt,
Anyone run into any charging or voltage issues using an amp with the alternator under driven.

I changed out my speakers and head unit but I think im gong to need a amp and at least 1 10" sub to have any type of decent sound.

what size amp do you recommend, i know i need at least a 4 channel but what about wattage, brand..ect

You dont need a 4 channel if you are just hooking up yoru door speakers and rear speakers. Screw the dash ones, they sound like ass anyway.
For a 2 channel anp:
Run both left speakers into the left channel of your amp in parallel. Then run both right speakers also in parallel to the right channel.

A great a affordable amp for this would be an MTX PRO150x2, Thunder 152, Thunder 302, PRO75X2, Thunder 2160, Thunder 280.

Then for a sub, if you are only wanting a single 10" (assuming to save weight), look at the Audiobahn ALUM10Q sub. Best bang for the buck by far, go to www.thezeb.com and check out the clearance section. They are an authorized dealer for Audiobahn so you will get your 1 year warranty. Get an MTX 500D amp to power the sub. or 1000D,81000D if you want to go all out.

Oh and as far as underdrive pulleys, I had trouble with the POS dsm alternator keeping up with my stereo with stock pulleys. So I dont know..

The pulleys worry me plus the battery is in the trunk. Not sure if that will put more draw on the alternator, I would imagine that it would.

Actually my new JVC head unit is doing a pretty good job running the infinity 2 ways I have in the dash doors and rear. Its supposed to have a 40 watt internal amp.. What do think about just using the amp just for the sub? it will be either one twelve or two 10's.

That should work fine, I actually had a kenwood deck in my 98 at one time powering all the 6 stock infinity speakers. And an MTX 1000D amp to power a Audiobahn ALUM15X sub.
Just as long as your deck has a sub level control, or you get one of those dash mount gain controls for you sub amp you will be fine.

If you dont have the level control or dash mount gain control the sub will most likely overpower your highs.

I would recommend an MTX 500D amp and a Audiobahn ALUM12Q sub.
They are designed for Sound Quality. The 15" I had hit nice and tight just like a 10, but also had the rumble of a 15. Best all around sub Ive ever used.

thanks for the help man i have no idea if my head unit has the abulity to control the sub's level. If it dosent ill look into the gain control you suggested. thanks again:thumb:

Look into a class D mono amp. They work best in subwoofer applications and draw the least amount of power from your electrical system.

An MTX 500D is a Class D:D

For a 10 or 12" ALUMQ sub get a 500D, for a 15" ALUMQ sub get the 1000d or 81000d.

MTX has a remote gain control for them also, it plugs in to a phone jack on the amp. I think the dash mounted control costs $20-25.
