I posted this on MachV but figured I would post it up here also. I figure I will be done with it next week and have it in the car after that.
Now these pictures are just of the laminating part. It was done with 2 layers of carbon. 13 1/3' total and alot of UV resistant epoxy ($$$), It is far from done in the photos. I had JUST finished laying it up. So of course it is untrimmed and nothing cut out. That will be next to the last step. I did however put down one layer of gel coat before leaving the shop and will sand and redo more of it tommorrow or when I get the chance. I did laminate down the side where it would be touching actual "dash" but I am unsure if I will leave it when trimming it down. As I said at MachV, I might take the front face part off and put a real aluminum dash kit.???
So here it is, unfinished, but at least you guy/gals know I am not blowin' smoke up your a$$. I am making it! ;)
Also in the photo is a TV mount for an airbag. Not mine though.

Interesting...you have all the ideas. So what is the core charge on a complete dash?;)

No core charge at all. Keep your dash in the car. I have 2 stock 2 gen dashes on hand to use ;)
BUUUUT, the AFC doesn't have a core charge either. I just need the one from the person to make it...I use theirs. I never have one on hand. The damn dealerships want to charge about 90-125 bucks depending where you call and I have hit up my local junk yards already to scoop them up. Maybe they are cheaper else where but I only looked local ( I know thats what you are hinting at ya' big bum!!!! The core charge! J/K..I am being a smarta$$ at ya' Nick).

Wow, that is just incredible. Terrific job!! You do some amazing work (based on my zero experience with fabricating with carbon fiber, hehe) :) Makes me wish I had the materials and work place to do such work in my free time. What an awesome project! Thanks for posting your progress, as I find it very interesting :)

I think I'll research how to do this stuff heh.
Don't be shy to post general instructions here. :thumb:

how much do those Carbon-Fiber sheets cost? i am in the process of making a custom sub setup in the back and i think it would look sick if i made it look all carbon fiber. what else would i need besides the carbon sheets? and how much would all this stuff cost? :thumb:

Looks great, but aren't you going to get rediculous glare on your windshield from a glossy surface like that

very possible that it will have a glare but I can mask off an section coming back from the winshield and lightly sand blast it to knock the shine down and give it a frosted look.

I like the work, I did a grand prix dash with carbon kevlar, I had one hell of a time with it, the ediges didnt seem to want to stick. I dont know how much you work with carbonfiber but you might want to invest in a vaccume bag they work wonders. carbonfiber is abotu 300 for a 10 yd roll 52"wide you can get it cheaper if you buy the whole 100yd roll, you dont have to pay the cutting charge. thats A grade you can get seconds for less but in this case you are mostlikely goign for cosmetics so the seconds arnt really an option. I perfer to use westsystems epoxy cost on that is about 100 per gallon, resin and hardener. then lots of time and patience. hope that works out for you I'd love to see some finished pics

Check Leo's profile and you will see that he does plenty of work in carbon fiber.

you dont have to make a mold alot of the time, you can use the original peice. you just need use some sort of lubricant befor you put any resin down. they make special wax and a substance called pva that are made for this type of application. you can get them from select prouducts. other wise if your brave you can use liquid silicon spray.

If you don't use a mold doesn't it end up begin too large or small and not fit?
