1g body kit

I am about to get a body kit for my 1g, unfortunetly my car is the 91 model so i have to do some cutting for the front bumper. I was just wondering if anyone who has done this or has put on their own body kit could tell me how much i could do myself before taking it to a shop to have it painted and final fittings. i want to minamize costs to the bare minimum. any help thanks.
