Need DSM Car Audio Help - Alternator help too!

my alternator died the other day, and the guy at the shop said its because im draining too much from all my toys... i have several neons and stuff but i dont think that hurts at all since they use very low power, but i think the amplifier is doing it. i have a sony xplod 760w amplifier and im powering 2 15"s in a sealed box. i plan on buying a fosgate 800 amp soon, as well as two new 12" subs this winter, so ill be draining more with the larger amp. I asked the guy at the shop to put in a bigger alternator, but he said that the stock size is the largest because nothing bigger will fit. Is this true? Anyone else with a DSM have the same problem im having?

I'm afraid to run my system now because my car failed going down the highway at 80mph with no winshield wipers in a downpour, and i dont want the same to happen again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to run my system without any problems.... only thing i can htink of is running a 2nd battery in the trunk and charging it at night.

i think that sony junk would blow up before your alt would


i know you could fit a larger alt on it. as long as you dont let your car sitting idling for 2 hours listening to the radio.. i think it should be fine.


the stock alt will work.....

Build up capacity. Add more batteries or upgrade your sock one with one with more reserve. I have 3 batteries in mine to power my 2000w amp.

you could buy a 1 or 5 farad cap to. might help.

This may help a little but caps discharge so qick sometimes they hurt more than they help. Also if you dont run enough to keep up with the watts they can explode. and they take alot with them when they do!!

they only suck alot the first time you charge the cap. after that its easy goin.

They discarge too quick to hold a reserve. to have and bit of a reserve you have to have a bunch of em.

Caps are for quick power transients only not reserve power and are not a fix for an underpowered electrical system.Also you can have alts rewound for higher outputs, but most high output alts(aftermarket or stock rewound) put out less at low rpms
