Back up lights?????

Hey I have got a question that is probably pretty simple to fix. My girlfriend has a 98 eclipse n/t and wants me to fix the back up lights because they don't turn on when she puts it in reverse any help to diagnose the prob would be great instead of me making more of a mess by trying to figure it out myself. thanks

i've been having the same problem lately...you should first check to make sure that there arent any blown fuses. If they're okay, then check the shifter position sensor on the tranny. It might just be loose, or the contacts might be corroded and need some cleaning.

Check the bulbs, too. It's common that you don't realize one's burned out until the other one is as well. And get in the habit of checking your lights in strip mall window reflections about once a week. A quick turn and you can check every light on the car.
