It works, but when I plug something in, it won't work. For ex. I can plug the little lighter thing and get it hot, but If I plug in my Radar or Phine charger, they won't work. Any one know whats up?

Tried it and that didn't work. My step-mom told me when they tried to plug up their phone chargers in it, one of them got fried by my cig. lighter.

is the car on when you are testing the phone and stuff? It took me a couple weeks to figure that one out:laugh:

my cigarette lighter is completely gone. So i went to the dealershiip and it was $85.00 to replace it. not even get it done just the part. LOL i hate that bs.

You should post these type of threads in Problem Diagnosis.

I would suggest buying a new socket from an auto parts store for around $10-20. My local Auto Zone sells them for a decent price, don't sell your soul to Satan for a stupid 12v accessory plugin. :p

Pull your center console- open the cupholder and ashtray, yank the assembly straight up, they both come out together. There's two screws under there. There's a screw on each side at the rear, hidden by the seats until you move them all the way forward. Gently pry off the radio surround with a flat screwdriver wrapped in rag- four steel spring-clips, 2 top, 2 bottom. Lift the console up and tilt it toward the driver's seat. There's a little light for the ashtray, it's in a socket that ¼-turns to come loose. Don't bump the airbag trigger box at the rear of the console, on the tunnel.
There's kind of a shroud around the lighter socket, similar to a deep socket made out of tin. The threads are down at the base, away from the opening- it serves as a heatshield from the lighter.
Pull your current socket, tape off the power supply (it's in the plastic holder, but still, be too safe), and compare it to the rack full of them at Wal*Mart. Should be about five bucks, and it's an easy job. Before you put the ash tray back, tighten up the adjuster nut at the end of the parking brake finger-tight.

$85 my ass.

is the eletrical connector that goes on the lighter socket black or green? i have the two under my middle console with the two little lights, but the previous owner didn't smoke and never needed it. i don't smoke either, just need it for my cell.:dsm:

You shoulda just dropped $1.25 for a Bic :p

good grief, I didn't wanna fool with taking the entire console out, I'll just let the tards at Best Buy mess with it when I get my new CD player installed. If they want to much to mess with it, then I'll do it myself. But I'd rather have a pro. deal with it so I don't screw up anything.

It's never hard to take consoles and stuff out of cars. It just seems more complicated than it really is.
