I have a limp and saggy shift boot....

Hey all, when I bought my car it came with a Razo shift knob and I just replaced it with another knob.

Anyway, how does the top of the shift boot attach to the bottom of the shift knob? I assume the boot isn't supposed to sag down exposing the shifter. There appears to be some old adhesive/glue on the "gasket" on the top of the shift boot so I assume when stock the boot was right up against the shift knob. How do I mate them up now?

Thanks all!!!

don't use tape, that looks trashy. silicone should work, but I'd clean it real good. you could also try automotive goop from any car parts store or walmart

That happened to mine too.. If you get a short shifter, it will fit fine. or do any of the above.

Cool, thanks for the input guys. I had thought of those ideas, but I wondered if there was some "right" way that I was missing.

Yeah, a short throw would solve that, but for now I'll see what works.

zip ties....aaaaah. I'll probably try that or even the electrical tape, but I'll do it from inside the boot from below by taking the console out and creating a "stopper" from within the boot that keeps it from sliding.

What a collaborative effort. Thanks all.

Mission accomplished: I didn't use zip ties cuz theoretically they could slide down the shifter. I simply wrapped some electrical tape around the shifter many, many times from inside the boot. It may be tacky, but you can't see it, so who cares? I will worry about class when I get a short throw. Thanks all.

Hey man, if it works, it works. And if you can't actually see a lump, then it doesn't matter. I'm glad you got it to work though.

Keep an eye on it, that tape may "wander" as it gets warm.

Hell, I didn't think of that. It has been over 100 degrees here the last couple of days....

i got a new sparco knob, and all i did was hacksaw right below the threads on the shifter. sounds ghetto but the knob was up mad high and the boot was sagging. all i did was cut at the last thread and now it matches up perfectly. im gonna leave it like this til i get a short throw.

Me confused: if you cut below the threads on the shifter, you then have no threads. How did you knob screw on then? Sorry if the answer is obvious, it is too early on a saturday to think clearly.
