I've been planning on installing a cd player in the air vents up above the stock radio location. I just wondered some issues people may have had with the install. Also; did the fan blow as good as before for the a/c or heater? or does it just blow out somewhere else?

Well i need the space for either a monitor , or for a dvd player. Or guages, i dont know for sure what i am going to do, I jsut like to design the stuff ahead of time, then put it together. oh and a apexi afc, that has to go somewhere too.

did anyone who did this try to block off the vents or somethin so the air could flow better out the other vents, instead of airconditioning my radio. ANd what kind of mounts did people use

I have been thinking about this for a while and i am determined to get it to work,i know Purple Plymouth Guy (91 Laser RS) did it he basically said it's possible but the back of the deck will be tight against the curve in the dash.:dsm:

HEy all 1st gen...
My pops is a machinist so i got access to some cool a$$ machinery!
Im making aluminum piece for my gauges..afc...and head unit
for the interior, my head unit stays where it is..my boost gauge and EGT is where the center vents are, and my AFC is going somewhere im pretty sure no one else has done, should be done with in the next week or 2, and i'll post..if you guys like... i can try to make for others...if wanted:talon:

show us some pics when your done, i also have access to a machine shop, i just want to hear all the different ways people have done this.
What you have goin sounds pretty sweet.

Already made the center vent piece, just got machine a hole for the boost gauge to be moved up there, but the boost will sit on the left and EGT on the right, the S-AFC will be placed in a intersting place...dont have room under the head unit, so that will be just a aluminum plate to cover the area, and didnt want to cut up the gloove box or put in the gloove box, i will get it done ASAP!

I've done this for a couple customers, will see if I can find pics. There are a few ways to do it, but you will pretty much lose the ability to use those vents. You could make a fiberglass or aluminum panel for the front with vents on the edges, and let it flow past the radio, but you lose the ability to aim the vents. Or you could block them all together. It flows ok out the other vents, but still doesnt work as good as the vents there would. Might I suggest using something like the Alpine CVA, or the Panasonic's version of it? You can mount it in the stock location, singel din, and mount the APEXI units underneath it. Just an idea.
