I love those Chin Spoilers/Lip from Rmdsm or the CF one by GSXtcy but Im really worried about purchasing one because of the stories of them cracking and snapping. Im realling leaning to purchasing one but i wanted to ask you Lip owners, how long have you had yours on? If yours broke how long did the lip last you? and are they worth it? and how bad of a beating are they able to take? ABS plastic or CF? Thanks, Joe

I've been wondering the same thing.... I'm on the fence.. I really like the look of them, but I am low right now 1.5" drop, and I am afraid that I snap it like a twig in the first week I have it...

I already have some scrapes on the front end of my car on the underside of the front bumper.. it would be nice because the lip would cover them up, but it makes it lower, so I am a little leary.

Any input:confused:

My car is down about 2" and I have Nick's on my car. Probably been on there about 2 months. Yes it has some road rash but it's still in good shape. You learn to be real carefull with it. Without measuring I'd say it's about 2.5 to 3 inchs off the ground. I probably scrape it about half a dozen times a day just on the bottom. All in all if I break it I will buy another because it looks cool. On a side note it's getting realy sharp. If I hit a rabbit I will slice it in half. LOL.

All you have to be is cautious. You know having a lowered car you have to drive slower in certain areas. Well with a chin spoiler on you have to creep over those same areas. Nick and I drove to North Carolina 2 weeks and he didn't scrape his at all the drive there and back to PA. His car is dropped 1.75".

This is my theory on chn spoiler/ lip spoiler, etc. If you are lowered, you must use caution. If you put a chin spoiler on you must be even more cautious. If you are an aware driver with a lowered car and a chin spoiler then the life of the chin will be forever. I had my first chin spoiler on for over a year. It had some signs of road rash, because I was in an area in which I was unfamiliar with. If you know your area, you will be fine. The only reason mine broke was due to my own stupidity. I was rushing to get somewhere and I did not slow down when crossing rail road tracks. The chin got caught in the track and peeled off and damaged the bumper cover. This was the rm chin.

Here is the benefit of the carbon fiber ones. They will do less damage to the oem bumper cover in a situation like mine. The rm plastic ones are nice but the cause more damage to the bumper cover.

And now a word from our sponsor:

If you would like a carbon fiber chin, email me or pm me:)

not sure what the point is
i dont think they look that great. saying its functional isnt really true, for one because its not attached to any sturdy frame to provide any real downforce, besides maybe stretching the bottom plastic of your bumper down from the top half. to say the 13 bolts that affix the plastic to the rest of the car are powerful enough to provide 100 lbs of downforce is kind of silly. second, because the air basically goes in to a concave shape to begin with, and not just a lip, it just pushes back and not down.
i'd say the only thing these lips would do is give upforce whenever you bottom them out on san antonio shit roads.

my $0.02

yes, being careful is the key. i've had mine since march and i've scraped it but that's mainly b/c i need new struts in the front. once they are on, now more scraping:thumb:

Excellent post man. This is probably one of the stupidest mods... isn't functional, honestly doesn't even look that good (yeah, that's completely subjective), too easy to damage on a car that isn't on a smooth race track for most of it's miles, and costs a butt load to replace. For all these reasons (for me mainly the first one) I can't understand why these kiddies are all about this thing. Ah well, this is the fast and the furious generation I guess.

My RM lip lasted me a few months... Then I decided to make my own. I won't hijack the thread, if you search hard enough you might find it :)

I made a different type of lip out of high grade plexiglass/Lexan.

I agree that it may not be 100% functional, but I did it for 50/50 looks etc.

I haven't broken mine yet, and I have tried on purpose, bottomed out a few times, even dinged it against a parking block.

Sturdy as heck.. the RM one... it was rather wimpy compared to the new one I made.

IMO if you got the lip, be prepared to go slow and be paranoid. The lip I made is higher off the ground and definately tougher, your call... eventually it's going to catch and break! :(
