It all started last week when a guy was test driving my car (I'm trying to sell it). Basically, there must have been a short somewhere in the electrical system so one of the wires totally melted and, as a result, the other 20 or so wires that are bundled with it melted as well. The main wire that caused the problem was a headlight wire. So as it stands now, my headlights, taillights, turn signals, horn, and convertible top are in-operable. I thought maybe I could go in a replace a wire or two...whatever was damaged, but when I got under the car I found that the whole bundle is basicllay fried and melted right through the loom. It's the wires that are all bundled together under the radiator and fan.
Well, I took it to satan (aka the dealership) and they said I'll need a whole new front wiring harness. The best part is that this wiring harness costs $780 from them, plus labor which is about $60/hour. So now I'm in quite a mess. I called a few junkyards thinking maybe I could get the wiring harness and do it myself, but they don't even know what I'm talking about when I ask. Any advice? Can I do this myself? And where can I find what I need??? I'm in some desperate need of help.
