how to get HVAC control out..?..

i want to put my a/f gauge in the last HVAC control hole..its the one all the way to the passenger side..im not even sure what its for but i think its for recirculating air through out the cabin..i tried to get it out but it was tuff as all heck..does anyone have instructions on how to put gauges in these holes for the control knobs to the HVAC..thanx

i dont know about for a 1g, but i know that it is the bigges pain to get out the one in the 2g, its harder than hell to come out....
