Moving hood hindges to the frount.

It's be slick, you'd need to use some 4-link/4-bar arrangement to get it to clear the front valance. Might be able to adapt something, probably have a bit of fabrication ahead of you. I don't think you could have the leading edge drop into the nose like an old Vette because that space is occupied. It'd probably have to lift and swing.

It might look cool at first, but I just hope you don't have to work on your engine ever, I've been around more than enough Jaguars that open nose forward and working over a fender is horrible.

You'd want to mount it onto the hinges with quick-releases so you could pull it for maintenance. Even checking the oil would be a bother with the hood in the way.
Yes, pity not more cars were like the GT-6. Or, a Frogeye with the hinges unbolted, and the front latch used for a hinge....

I used to have a 91 vette, which had the hood open like that. It sucked! I guess thats why I left it stock.

I went through the forums this morning looking for the flip hood mod on any dsms to see if it had been done or if it is even worth doing. has anyone tried this before, just looking into it and have only found one pic on the net but nothing showing the brackets or anything as to how it was done

anyhow any help is welcomed thanks:talon:

There would be quite a bit of custom fabrication to make this work. On my old E30 BMW, there was a track your hood would slide down on. You pop the hood inside the car, go out, pull forward on the hood, and pull up on the back. That would be the easiest way to run one, because there would be less gadgets to run. That is what I would imagine to be the most practical to do if you wanted to do this. The question is, why do this? Because it is different? I can respect that, but you have to think about how big of a PITA it would be to work on your car with a hood like this.
Oh, let me tell you. It blows ass. :)

I'm under the hood so much that I would never think of changing it.

My original pic has been lost by one or another server upgrade, but the idea is to have an open hinge at the front, of a design that will lock-in when down, and then lift off when hinged up. It could also be designed to let the hood hinge up for things like oil checks.

Here is a low dollar mod for 2G hoods. Might work on a 1G...haven't got one around to check.

Killer access for motor work and no shadows from poor overhead lights in the garage during those late night repairs. You can still use the prop rod as normal or go full 90-degrees and use a small pin to lock the hinges while open.

Genius! Very clever! Seems like I am always battling the position of the car and shadows with my overhead light from the hood. What did you do to your hood to make it able to open that far? I would say I am so interested in doing it I would probably do it this weekend!

I've never seen it.

P.s. - You'll hate working on your car.

+2, I'v done just an oil change on cars where the hood opens like that and its a PITA. Yeah the hood would look cool, but when you would need to do some work under the hood you would hate it.
