all of the speakers in my 97 eclipse gst (with the infity sound system) are blown. i wanted to buy new ones, but the guys at circuit city told me that since the factory speakers are the only speakers that will work with the factory amp i have to get everything re-wired. they wanna charge me like 100 bucks for this, but i am kinda skeptical. does anyone know if i can just add aftermarket speakers without having to worry about the wiring or do i really have to rewire it all?

well, honestly i don't see why you can't replace the blown speakers with aftermarket ones.....now if you were gonna add an aftermarket cd player....you'd most likely have to just bi-pass that factory amp....re-wiring the entire system is not necessary, it's just a matter of figurin out which wires go to what at the head unit. goodluck

Those guys are jerking you around. I upgraded my speakers myself using the same factory wires and I have an aftermarket radio running through my factory amp. Changing the speakers are very easy, if you want e-mail me at [email protected], I have a Crutchfield install guide that I can scan and send to you. I got it when I bought my new Kenwood DPX-6020 radio.

That CC prick want's to sell you a whole rig. ANY aftermarket speaker will work, just match Ohm loads. That factory amp is just a cheaper version of an aftermarket amp. The speakers are just polypropolene cones with copper voice coils, the same as any other speaker on the market (Of course higher end speakers use more rigid cone materials but you get the point.) The amp sends power, the speakers use that to move and the movement makes sound. Nothing short of...normal. There is absolutely no reason that you can't drop any speaker you want in that hole and have a working system.

dont let the peope from circuit city to ever touch your car. My friends brother had them install a new system and they drained the battery. Then they ended up frying his alternator(probally wrong spelling). Never trust them. Do it yourself or go to a professional. buy thats just me.

I had them install my XM brain...because Alpine is really anal about warranty issues, but I was sitting in the car with the installer the whole time, and I had to tell him, rather forcefully, not to run the AiNet signal cable beside my 4awg power cable. He insisted that, get this, the AiNet module had a chip in it that would read my system voltage and automatically adjust for any electrical noise in the signal. A few minutes later I showed him in the XM Manual where it specifically states (Page 2) "Do not route the AiNet signal cable within 2 feet of any high current power cables" So he shut up and proceded to remove my passengers seat, lazy b-stard just wanted to toss it in and leave. Then he tried to charge me an extra $60 for the 4awg amp install. He even went so far as to pull an empty install kit out of the trash. Never mind that I used a differnt brand of cable than was marked on the package. So, no. I do not trust anything CC tells me. They hire kids who know nothing about car audio. I just told them to return my car in the condition it was in when I brought it in, and the kid caved, saying, "We'll just let you have the amp kit" ...seeing that Ihad just spent over $900 on the XM kit and the Headunit, I guess it's fair that they let me have what's mine...

hey can u tell me what exhaust you have.
I have the Apexi dunk in my trunk wanting to be installed. first time I tried to do it myself, I ran the pipe over the axle. learned from that mistake.

When I replaced my rear speakers(220watts 3way pioneers) I painted the grill red to match the car also the center pieces. may wanna try it when bored someday. I also put some tweeters where the dash speakers where

arg...noo.. remove the tweeters from the stock dash area!! look how clsoe they are to the windshield. the reflet off of that and shoot in all kinds of different angles... totaly messes up your left/right acoustics. at least stick em in the A-pillars or something..

It's a matter of personal prefrence. I mounted mine on the plastic area where the rearview mirrors are on the doors.

im not sure how to quote yet, but who ever said thier tweets sound awesome on the dash.. what basis of compairison do you have? trust me dude, they will sound a WHOLE lot better. your SQ will go wayyyy up if you install em somewhere else. and its not a matter of personal preference. you get cross distortion, and a whole shizzle load more big worded stuff. bottom line is its all about dynamics and angles. physics... personla preferncecomes into play wheather you like it to osund good or bad. i ahvent been there for a while, but go to elitecaraudio.com, i think it has explainations and diagrams.
