For high output applications you will need a better alt. Otherwise your car is not gonna have enough power for everthing and things are going to start to dim during play. And if your gonna get a new alt., don't get it rebuilt, just buy an aftermarket one. A cap is meant to give you the power you need when the system hits high peaks. Its pretty much a back up system for the alt.

A) Theres no such thing as too much bump for any car.
B) I haven't gotten a chance to mess it our alt. But you can never go wrong with getting a better alt, IMO.

the canadian alternator and i think the the evo alternator is a 90 amp instead of 75....something like that

the evo 8 alt will work on a 420a? and also, exactly how many amps is mine? and do the other 420a cars have the same alt?

Get a alt. off a 95-99 n/t automatic car. It is 90 amps. I have the same prob. with the alt. The 90 amps isn't enough for my crossfire vr2000d amp. It pulls around 150 amps normal draw. All I can say is MORE BATERIES!!!!!! I have extra batteries in my car to build up enough reserve to keep the alt. from surging power. Do something to keep the power up or you can burn up the computer. If you find a company that makes a bigger alt. let me know. I am about to adapt a GM alt to my car to get it up to 170 amp, with a custom dual erectifer alt.

I got a 91 laser and a big systen and my altenator is 90 but only putting out 85 !! had it off and checkeds it the other day!! And our altenatour could use a little wider pully on them a s well!! There is a lot of strain on that little 4 rib belt!! 5 or 6 be nice!! Then u wont get the squeal sometimes!!!

i have 2500 rms have a cap and a deep cycle blue top also i have the canadian 90 amp alt not much dimming at all just waiting to get my alt rebuilt for 160 amps but its cost 600 but thats just another way to go instead of the extra batteries

in my last car i put in a 170 amp alternator, and it ran my system GREAT.

i put the same system in my DSM, and it runs it great with nothing special needed. i didnt change the alternator or battery or anything, just wired it in and pushed play. :thumb:
