Had anybody tried to remove the rear quarter panel on a 2g before, on a spyder, might be the same or easier than a coupe, but anyone with experience on doing this? I dont mean the inside panel, but the actual outside quarter panel after the door,

Could someone ANYONE post or let me know where to find an article on how to completely remove the rear drivers side quarter panel on a 90 talon TSI. I would be soooo appreciative and it could save me like 300 dollars for a body shop to do it. Thank You ALOT in advance

Well, it seems to be a newbie-type question, not a technical question, given that the rear quarter-panels on our cars are part of the unibody and don't bolt on. But I'm not a moderator, so that's just a guess.

i took my car to get an estimate, 2300 for a bowling ball size dent(by bowling ball i mean the dia. of the ball, and about 1 inch deep)! they said that they would order a replacement outer door panel, take the parts i have now, and use their special pop out tools to bring the dent back out. i will post pics tuesday afternoon of the damage, but my god, i spent 2000 on the car to begin with, and they want more than its worth to make it pretty again.

another question, what are the proceedures to painting a car. has anyone ever painted their car back to stock specs?
any info on making the car look absolutly factory are welcom:thumb:
thanx~myk_

quarter panel has crease, door has barely visible dent, plus the strip on it was f'd so they would put that on as well. after school i will have pics up.

sounds like they are really trying to rip you off, it should cost nowhere near that to take out some dents and repait two panels go to another shop.

here are some pics to justify their reasoning for such an outragous price.

Sounds like there in the ball park man sorry but there is about 10 hours of pulling and dollying + 2-3 hours of mudding then prep for primer then block sanding then masking then prep for paint then like 3.5 hours for Base Clear panit then un mask and asembley. so like 35 hours x 45 is 1575 + Red base is expensive so 75$ and 100 for clear 1750 and I would think the new door is 200 (witch thay would probly do) so 1950+tax.

Thats how i would price it. And there labor rate could be more??? I get 45& a hour in ont canada.

Sorry but it takes time and time is money!!!

the estimate said 16 work hours, a new skin for the door is about 175. going rate for sheet metal work around here is 42 bucks. i guess they arent such a bad place, but i just dont have that much green. i spoke with my dad who has done body work before, and he is reluctant to really help. looks like im sol on this and will have to do it myself, i guess all i can do is make it worse!:thumb:

Get a nother estament and if still no luck read and try it your self but I recamend geting the pant work done by a pro. If you get all ready to spray thay should only charge like 200 bucks if you get the pant.

Good luck to ya and shoot me any qustions you might have!

Your idea of a bowling ball is pretty scary- I'd hate to think what you'd call a full-length sideswipe. That door's done for, just get another. I'm a bit suspicious that a shop would want to re-skin a decade + old car.

That's a lot of damage. Their repair estimates were accurate.

the car swiped a pole, between the passenger side door, and the rear tire. the door strip had an inch or so taken out, and i coudnt fix that so i just bought a full length one to replace it. the body shop found it to be cheaper to reskin the door, than the time to pound it out, as well as, to replace a whole door(and/or swap interior parts with a shell door).

i dont tend to think i overpaid on the car considering it has less then 100 miles on the newly rebuilt motor:thumb:

has anyone repainted their entire car themselfs in a homemade booth?

what i plan on doing is getting everything prepped and take the car to them to have em pull the crease out, and i can swap doors...if i find a fesable one. then if painting it proves to kick my ass(most likely will happen) i might prep the car for em to paint.
