Need help deciding

I want to get 17" rims but I don't know what kind yet. I have to still look around. I also want to lower my car a little bit so there isn't a big gap in the wheel well. Because the one that is there now is pretty big. Oh and btw it's a 93 NT Eclipse. So what size tires do u guys recommend for 17s and how much should i lower my car without having to worry about rubbing..please respond
