what's the deal with removing the 95-96 talon rear wing?

is the rear deck painted and everything underneath? i hate how my 95 looks like a sunfire cuz of it but i kinda wanna know what's underneath it though first

Its painted under there. But there a a bunch of holes if you remove the spoiler. You could fiberglass the holes from the bottom and fill (bondo) the top and have the deck repainted or you can have it welded and repainted (but this requires the glass to be removed). Either way, its not easy and not inexpensive.

how much do you think it'd run to have the holes filled and the rear deck painted to match?

I too am looking at doing this and just going wingless but I had a question on top of how to fill the holes. Is there a way that I can keep my rear windsheild whiper functional? I dont know if I can buy or make a mount for it.

Getting holes filled professionally is gonna cost ALOT. I wanted to take my wing off to switch to a 2gb turbo wing. but i quickly changed my mind after i saw the #'s.

man i'd love to know about the rear windshield wiper as well... I took the plastic off my rear hatch from what i can see... if you took off the wiper temporarly, then removed the wing, reinstalled it it shouldnt be a problem, it appears to be a seperate piece from the spoiler.

Also it is painted underneath, you could always just use some cheap touchup paint and bondo (it works well... but for perfection youll have to sand down to the bare metal and spray even).

Anyway let me know if you guys have any solid info...

THanks

Also, I switched wings and my stock wing had left markes on the hatch window where it scrapped. Looks bad and I've had a few people ask me what it is.......but that window is to expensive to replace.;)

Spoilerless looks more better. :thumb:

The rubber plugs are just that, and they are like $2 from Pep boys. The larger plug I used for filling the hole where the brake light wire came though is a freeze plug (thats what the redneck that checked me out called it) sorry but I cannot remember the size. IMO they look better without that toenail sunfire spoiler.

I forgot the other reason I removed mine was because it was rattling and the rattling has etched the glass where the outline of the spoiler is but its kind of sad even though there is damage there it looks better without that spoiler still.

yes it definitly does. black cars aren't as bad cuz the spoiler just blends in, but at the same time, it's that much more sunfire-ish. i think 2gs look good with just no spoiler so i would think the only other reasonable alternative would be to find a whole rear hatch that came with no spoiler (harder to find if you want to keep the wiper of course, but still around) like from a junk yard where they'd probly just let you trade them if they were equal condition. that's what i'd try then just go for the plugs if i couldn't. figure if you trade them the same thing but it has a spoiler they can sell too, then they'd be all about it and then you'd have a smooth rear hatch from the factory to work with.

could you describe how you removed it?

Thanks!

Removing the Talon lip spoiler is easy. First remove rear wiper. Flip up the cap where the wiper mounts and remove the 10mm bolt and yank the wiper off. Next remove the grey/ tan plastic panel inside of the hatch. There are 3 screws to remove then just yank it off, several clips hold it on. If you look around under there you will notice a bunch of studs and nuts that hold the spoiler in place. Remove the nuts for the spoiler and unplug the 3rd brake light. Close the trunk and yank the spoiler off. (There is some velcro and push clips that will hold it in place until you yank it off.)
